JANUARY 30, 1918 'Rumanians Invaded Bessarabia to Protect Property From Looters By Associated Press, London, Jan. 30. The reasons which led to the invasion of Bess, arabia by Rumanian troops, one of the causes of the rupture In relations be tween Rumania and Russia, are ex plained by the correspondent of the Times, with the Rumanian army, in a dispatch tiled on January 22. He says the Bessarabian officials made repeated appeals to the Rumanians to restore order and save private prop erty from looters, conditions having ! been greatly disturbed by the Bol i sshevik regime. Another and more powerful consideration was that Bes sarabia contained all manner of sup plies belonging to Rumania, which the Bolshevikl threatened to destroy. To save these stores and maintain communication with Odessa and Kiev was, the correspondent says, a matter of life or death involving the question of Rumania's absolute Isolation from her allies in western Europe.
