DRAFTED MEN TO GO FEBRUARY 6 New Rulings on Selective Service Are An nounced Drafted men who will be sum moned to make up tlte shortages of draft districts tributary to Camps Lee and Meade will In all probabil ity begin to move to those camps on February 6, but the balance of the men needed to make up the quota under the first call will not start be fore February 15, according to pres ent indications. The men to make up shortages will replace men re jected at camps after physical ex amination and to make up defici encies under previous quotas. About ten to twelve per cent, are still due the two camps under the first call. Major W. G. Murdock, in charge of the draft headquarters, who has been inquiring of the local draft boards as to the progress made on the classification of the question naires, has heard from about 100 of the 282 boards and is urging that the work be expedited. Forty per cent, of the boards answering re port work from ninety to 100 per cent, in hand, twenty per cent, from seventy-five to ninety, twenty-five per cent, fifty to seventy-five and fif teen per cent, less than half done. In Philadelphia only nine of fifty one boards have replied and only two of those have finished the work. They are Nos. 32 and 36. AHiclmy county has a good record outside of Pittsburgh, where very few boards Have made much progress, according to reports in hand. Hulings have been announced at the draft headquarters that men of the draft age married since May 18 and given deferred classifications will have their cases automatically appealed to the district boards and that all men who received the "green card" or card to be in readi ness to go are entitled to que.. tionnaires. School superintendents have been urged to have teachers act In help ing drafted men make out the cen sus cards so that data on occupa tions may soon he in Government hands. These rulings have been made in regard to questionnaires: "On the first page of the ques tionnaire immediately below class 5 is a space left for the claim by a member of a well-recognized re ligious sect or organization whose religious convictions are against war, commonly known as non combatants. The person who marks opposite this claim Is not released from being classified in any other of the classes which are designated on the first page of the question naire. Tn other words, this is not a class: it merely entitles a man whose claim is proved as a non- CQmbatant receive a certificate from the local board after he is in ducted Into military sen-ice, show ing that he is a noncombatant. At the annual meeting held early this month a new set of officers was elected, consisting of the following: President, llarrle A. Douglass; vice president, Cassius A. Dunn; secre tary, Frederic A. Godcharles; treas urer, George W. Thompson; execu tive officer, W. Calder Metzgfer, and ordnance officer, Philip C. Schwartz. The reports of the officers proved most interesting, showing a member ship at the end of last year of 127. Thirty-two of these members are now in some branch of the service "do ing their bit." Four of them are commissioned as captains, live as llrst lieutenants and seven as second lieutenants. Almost every branch of the service is represented and some of them are "over there." The club was Incorporated during the year, receiving a first class char ter, February 23, 1917, by the Court of Common Pleas of Dauphin County. The finances of the club are most satisfactory, more than $2,100 pass ing through the club treasury dur ing 1917 and small balance is on hand to begin this year's operations. Some necessary work remains to be done on the excellent range erectea along the Conodogulnet creek above Oyster's dam. The club has only recently acquired some additional property immediately adjoining the range site, whereon are some de sirable farm buildings, which will be remodeled for the use of the members. A wharf will be erected near the firing points so that those who enjoy boating may be made more comfortable. There are sev eral other improvements contem plated, all of which will be started ns soon as the weather conditions j Will permit. Several new members have been ; added since the beginning of the year, and it is expected that many of the Harrisburg Reserves will be come members so that the unusual advantages of the ranges may be enjoyed and the decorations award ed by the National Rifle Association be given those who qualify. It is ateo expected that the national matches will again be held this sum mer, and, if so. a team will be en tered from the local club. A rangemaster and attendants will be in constant service as soon as the active season gets under way and jitney schedules will be main tained for the benefit of those who do not own autos. It is expected that every member will qualify be fore the close of the year. Arrangements have been made for several tournaments. The club won final possession of the handsome silver trophy donated by Alexander Kassnar last season when it won the three matches contested with the Keystone Club. Similar tourna ments will be enjoyed this season and with the prospects of a national match much interest should be stimulated by those who have ability as marksmen. Mr. Kassnar has again proved his interest in Ihe club by donating a blue rock trap and accessories, which will be installed as soon as possible, when the members may en joy trap shooting as well as regula tion target practice with the Spring- Held rifle. This club has come rapidly to the front and with the increased inter est the success of the club merits there should be a most enjoyable' season spent at the range this year.
