DRIVE NEARS END WITH GOAL IN SIGHT Men of All Faiths Help Cam-< paign For Good Cause WTWH —* -- _____ In the first three days of the Y. M. C. A. membership campaign, 39* membership applications have been signed. This result was announced at the third membership supper held last night In the assembly room of the "Y" building, Second and Locust streets. Yesterday's total of member ships was 138. By team, the-score follows: Team 1, 31; team 2, 20; team 3 r 26; team 4, 86; team 5, 18; team 6, 23; team 7. 7; team 8, 1; executive committee, 13. The supper was a very enthusiastic one. Members of J. Harry Messer smith's team furnished considerable amusement with their professional band. Their fife and drum corps playing "Yankee Doddle," was the hit of the evening. Dr. George Ed ward Hawes, pastor of the Market Square Presbyterian Church, deliver ed a stirring address and showed how the Y. M. C. A. will help the boys in the 1 trenches when they come back from the front. It will help them on the right path, he declared. "Ameri ca has not yet begun taking out Lib erty Bonds," he shouted. "Buying Liberty Bonds is not a gift to the government; _it is an investrrfent." Workers are confident that the campaign will be closed to-night. . But 102 members are required to reach this goal, and these, it is ex pected, will be signed to-day. A worker, in giving his report, said that one of his memberships was a Catholic. "I also met a prominent Jew," he said, "who could not join, so he told me to get a man and to draw on him for the money." Like the Knights of Columbus campaign, this membership drive is appealing to men of all tenets and creeds who realize the groat work of the Y. M. C. A.
