TWO LIGHTLESS NIGHTS A WEEK fContinued from First Pace.] make in regard to prohibiting the furnishing of electricity for display signs. The action cornea as the result of the failure of the first order of the National Fuel Commission of No vember 9, limiting the use of the display signs to the hours of 7.45 and 11. The measure, while strictly en forced, failed to produce the desired effect of conserving the fuel supply of the nation. The present ruling ts\ a more stringent effort to save the nation's fuel supply. Dr. Garfield, national fuel commissioner, in his statement, says that the effort will sijrve one good purpose in that it will remind the people of the nation that they are in the greatest world v/ar of history, and must sacrifice accordingly. Asked to Save Citizens of the country are urged to set an example of patriotism by burning as few lights in their homes as possible on the "lightless" nights. Mr. Hlckok urges the citizens of Harrisburg to help in the latest measures to remedy the coal scar cily. Mr. Hickok announced that with twenty-two cars of coal sent to the city yesterday and fourteen moro , piomised for to-day, as a result of 1 the trip to Philadelphia he made yesterday, that immediate danger of I serious coal famine in Harrisburg has been averted. Ho said that the ■ new shipments of coal sent yesterday and to-day will supply the city for , two weeks. He figured that 2,900 l families can be supplied from the ■ now shipments, giving each family • half a ton each. The total shipment of coal to the city following Mr. Hickok's trip was 1,440 tons. The . Reading sent twenty-two cars and the Pennsylvania furnished fourteen L to-day. ' Future Indefinite Mr. Hickok went to Philadelphia on his own initiative to see. the deai i ers in an effort to get coal. The State 1 Fuel Commissioner could do noth ing, but allowed him a free hand to get what he could from the oper ' atcrs. Mr. Hickok said that the coal ' shipments come as the result of a ' severals hours' conference with the operators, in an effort to get them • to fill some of the orders of Harrls • burg dealers. He warned the people 1 that the sizes may not be just what they want, as it was necessary to • take what he could get He urges ' dealers and consumers to do the • same. He stated that he could get - r ,o assurances for the future from - any of the operators. 1 Harrisburg has used 10,231 tons of coal more than last year, Mr. Hickok " said. This is due to the Increased in dustrial activities, severer weather conditions and increasing population of the citv. It is one fact that makes - it so hard for the fuel administrator to procure coal, he said. I S2OO FOR SOCIETY I The County Commissioners to-day . signed the warrant for the anual ap propriation to the Dauphin County ■ Historical Society upon the presenta '■ tion of a statement of expenses of the society. TJie appropriation was in creased to S2OO. RESOLUTIONS OF REGRET Resolutions of regret because of the deatli of Thomas W.
