S. Army Halifax, Pa., Aug. 2 s.— Dr. Fred erick C. Smith, who several months ago was commissioned first lieuten ant in the Medical Corps of the Unit ed States Army, has arrived in France, according to a letter re ceived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Smith. When Ihe letter was written, on July 29, he had just ar rived in England after a safo voy age across the ocean and was leav ing then by rail for France.—Miss Christine Xeidig went to Williams port on Wednesday to attend the wedding of her cousin. JONATHAN E. SIMPSON Colombia, Pa., Aug:. 25.— Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan E. Simpson, of this place, have the unusual distinction of having given their four sons as soldiers in the war against Germany. They are now serving in different branches of the Army and Navy, the youngest being a member of the local company, which is Company C, of the Fourth Regiment. Keener, 79 years old, is believed to be the coldest contractor and barn builder in the State, In active serv ice. In 1861, fifty-six years ago, he assisted in building the barn for Elizabeth Mlssemer, mother of J. R. Mlssemer, editor of the Mount Joy Star and News. The barn is one of the largest and most substantial structures in the neighborhood, lo cated three miles north of Mount Joy. George Grelner was the mas ter mechanic. Mr. Keener, .who lives one mile north of Mount Joy, has built many barns In the neigh borhood and has just been awarded the contract to erect the barn of Jacob S. Long recently was injured on one of his elbows. In a fall from a swing later a wasp stung him on the injured arm, causing the member to swell to an enormous size and making him ill with fever.
