Which of your paintings do you consider your best work? When, ! where, and why did you paint It? How much did it bring you in? Who Is your favorite, dead master? Fa vorite living master? What is your Income from art? How much—" But at this point the artist sel*ed the Interviewer by the arm and be gan In his turn: "Just a moment, please. What is your name, age and salary? Is journalism with you a life-work or merely a means to a higher literary end? How do you like your editor? State his faults and salary. What was the best interview you ever wrote? Give a brief summary of same. Have you ever been fired? How does It feel? Where—" But here the Interviewer, Jerking his arm from the painter's grasp, fled from the studio, and the artist cheerfully resumed his work.—Pitts burgh Chronicle Telegraph. THAT TROUBLESOME H A certain English foreman in one of the Kensington textile factories Is in the habit of having an apprentice heat his luncheon for him. The oth- I er day he called a new apprentice. "Go downstairs and 'eat up my | lunch for me," ordered the fore ! man. The boy—a typical young Amer ican. with no knowledge of cockney English—obeyed with alacrity. He was hungry. Ten minutes later the foreman came down. He also was hungry. "Where's my lunch?" he de manded. The boy gazed at him In amaze ment. "You told me to eat It up—and I ate it," he stated. "I didn't tell you to heat it up!" roared the irate foreman. "I told you to 'eat it up." "Well, 1 didn't heat it up," main tained the youngster, stoutly. "I ate it cold." —Youth's Companion. Depart, uiciit of Affrtculturo I J Washlngton, July ...—The crop of vegeiables from home gardens prom ises to be unusually largo In practi cally all sections cf the country this year, says the Cnited States Depart ment of Agriculture, In a statement just Issued. Home gardeners, thero fore. It is pointed out, should bjrin now to plan so that the products raised by them will be used to the best possible advantage, without waste. "There Is likely to be an unusually large production of vigetahL-i from small home gardens in most commu nities this year," says the rftat 'Pient. "Home gardeners, therefore, should lay their plan* caref.nly so that they will be in a position at the appropri ate time to make efficient use of their garden produce, both by Immediate consumption and by preservation by canning, drying, or In other ways, so that no good food will be wasted. "A very material saving can be ef fected In the food bill in many in stances by having the meals consist more largely of the fresh home-grown vegetables and less extensively of the nonperlshable foods bought from 'gro cery stores. By following this plan, also, garden-owners will relieve some what the demand for the nonperlsha ble foods. "Even with liberal use In the fam ily diet in a fresh state, however, there will be considerable surpluses of vegetables from many home gar dens. These should bo saved In some way. Canning is the method molt usually employed, but it is possible that cans and Jars cannot be obtained in sufficient quantities this year to pack the surplus perishables, in such cases many products easily can be preserved by drying. Drive Off Water "By this method surplus water is driven off by placing sliced products on trays In the sun, over a stove or before an electric fan. The dried foods ran be kept perfectly In paper bags or boxes sufficiently tight to ex clude Insect?. Soaking In water will bring the products back practically to their original texture and thev ma'v be cooked like fresh vegetables'. "In putting up vegetables and fruits for future use, the home gardener may find the following suggestions useful: "If you can obtain cans and Jars only in limited numbers, can toma toes and other vegetables which can not be dried easily, nnd such fruits as you prefer in a Juicy form. Wher ever possible concentrate succulent foods, such as tomatoes. BELL-ANS Absolutely Removes Indigestion. One package proves : t. 25e as all druggists. <22E>&„ S Easy to apply. Sere.
