16 2,500 WOMEN SIGN PLEDGE TO SAVE FOOD Dauphin Is First Town to Complete Canvass; Has 117 Signers About 2,500 women in the city signed the food conservation pledge in the first few days of the big drive for signers, according to reports an nounced this afternoon by Mrs. John W. Reily, chairman of the* registra tion committee. The borough of Dauphin is the first county borough to make a complete report to the headquarters. The signatures of 117 women were sent in by the upper end borough. The chairman was Mrs. J. W. Hawthorne, and her as sistants were Misses Sabra B. Clark, Ethel Forney. Ora Biekle and Helen Wallace. Atlantic, Gulf and West Indies breaking 5% points and Ma rine preferred United States Steel was quoted at 126*4 to 125 against yesterday's final price of 127 , 4. Uher industrial and war issues were lower by one t< three and one-half Pittsburgh Coal, Baldwin Locomotive Studebaker and Industrial Alcohol were heavy to weak. Rallies of one to two points ensued before the end of the first half hour. The early decline proved to be lit tie more than a bear raid, shorts soon running to cover. The rally made greater headway on official confirmation of a satisfactory settle ment of the industrial situation at Washington. Many severe losses were entirely retrieved. Marine's showing actual gains and Atlantic Gulf and West Indies recovering all but a small portion. Industrials in cluding United States Steel, were within easy distance of the previous day's final quotations and rails showed marked improvement. Advances of 1 to 5 points were made by Industrial Alcohol, the to baccos, United Railways, common and preferred, and Philadelphia Company. General strength pre vailed at noon, the liberty issue, however, selling at 99 49-50 to 99 47-50.
