Albert Smith, of Mechanicsburg, a member of the Medical Reserve Corps, has received a commission as First Lieutenant and is awaiting orders. He is a graduate of the Medico Chirurgical college, Philadel phia, and had four experience in hospital work in that city, coming from there :o this place where he has since practiced medicine. BUSINESS OF GETTY POSTOFFICE IS DOUBLED Arrival of United States Infantry Regiments on Battlefield With Xumerous Rei its, Makes Employment of Extra Clerks Necessary Gettysburg, Pa., June 30. Busi ness of the Gettysburg post office has about doubled stnce the arrival of the soldiers in the camp here. It has been necessary to add three addi tional clerks in the office and each regiment furnishes its own carrier to camp. An unusually large lot of in correct addresses, due to the forming of four new regiments since the ar rival of the boys, many of them be ing taken from the regiment with which they came here and assigned to one of the new ones, makes the work of the post office in connection with the camp hard, one clerk in the office spends his entire time deal ing with the mail of this kind. —flic authorities seem determined to do all in their power to stop the furnish ing of liquor to and in fol lowing out their plans raided the home of Hugh Clements, where it was thought soldiers were gathering to be furnished with fire-water. Nine soldiers were found in the house and turned over to the guard, which as sisted in the raid, and Clements was placed in jail. Four quarts of whisky were found as evidence as to what was going on.—William Hummer was thrown 'o the ptanklng at the Stratton street crossing of the West ern Maryland railroad when his leg was caught in the boards. Bausch left on Thurs day for his new Held of labor at Sel lersville, Pa. His congregation ten dered him a farewell reception on Tuesday evening. Friends from the various congregations of the town took part in the literary and musical program which preceded the social hour. The congregation presented the pastor with six gold pieces as a part ting gift. To morrow afternoon at 12 o'clock, "Pa triotic Day" will be observed in the Union Chapel Sunday School. JOHN BOEHM Mount Joy, Pa., June 3 0.-—The Rev. John Boehni was born in Phila delphia, September 8, 1831. During his career as a Methodist minister he ,;s believed to have been longer In service than any clergyman of the denomination in Pennsylvania. For a number of years he lived in Mount Joy with his granddaughter, Mrs. William Tyndall, but he now makes his home with his daughter at Annville. For thirty years Philadel phia was his field of labor, where he was for a long period in charge of St. George's Church, the oldest Meth odist church in the country. For twenty-eight years he taught a Bible class in the did Emery church and for six years he preacned every Sun day in the Eastern penitentiary and organized the nrst singing class in that institution. The Rev. Mr. Boehm's wife was Miss Mary John son. His living children are: Mrs. Ellen Jones, Daniel Boehm and George W. Boehm. Besides holding appointments in various parts oi Pennsylvania, he was also stationed in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. Reed, Newville's Oldest Minister Newville, Pa., June 30.—The all day service of the dedication of the Church of the Brethren was largely attended. About forty singers, un der the leadership of the Rev. Mr. J-ens, autoed from York and had charge of the singing at the morn ing and afternoon services. The Rev. Mr. Oher, of Elizabethtown, preach ed the dedicatory sermon in the morning. After this service lunch was served to about four hundred persons in the large upper room. Afternoon services were opened with a song service, after which the Rev. J. W. H. Beahm, of Noakesvllle, Va., delivered a sermon on "Spiritual Patriotism." Dr. G. M. Reed, of the United Presbyterian Church, was in troduced as the oldest minister of .Newville, and in a short address wel comed the members of this new congregation. Speeceville Sunday School Scholars Visit Duncannon Duncannnn, Pa., June 30.—Four automobiles conveyed the scholars of the Sunday school at Speecevllle to Duncannon on Sunday evening where they joined the Presbyterian Sunday school in a combined Chil dren's Day servlca,—Harvey Artcr has been appointed supervisor of the borough by council, filling the position which Jesse McCoy resign ed.—Mr. and Mrs. Grant Willi* and son Stanley, of Harrisburg; Mr and Mrs. Jacob Lehman, parents of Mrs. Willis, enjoyed a week-end trip to Marietta by automobile.—The Chil dren's Pay service at the union Sun day school Sunday afternoon were iteresting and largely nttended. The ice cream and cake festival held on Saturday evening by members of the Sunday school was well attended and netted a nice sum to the fund to be used in the building of a new chapel.—The solicitors of the local chapter of the Red Cross Societv in their campaign last week to raise $2,500 met great success In over subscribing the amount.—Charles H. Miller, of Enola, visited relatives here on Tuesday evening.
