' ARREST STOCK BROKER Philadelphia, May 22.—Clawson Backman, indicted last December with two others charged with de frauding investors out of $1,000,000 through stock subscriptions in the International Gas and Electric Com pany, a Delaware corporation, was arrested at ROUBCS Point, N. Y., yes terday after having been expelled from Canada as an undesirable citi zen. EMMA OOAKIjEY Ml}S Emma Coakley, of 16 Cowden strfeet, died this morning of alcohol ism at the Dauphin county jail. She was committed May 19 and since that time has not been in a physical condition for a hearing at police court. She was under the influence of alcohol when arrested and never fully regained consciousness. There are no survivors. Drexel, the head of the Philadelphia bank ing firm of Drexel & Company. MAY 22, 1917. | Big Truck Crushes Man to Death on Highway j Carlisle, Pa., May 22.—While working with a gang of men for the State Highway Department on the Walnut Bottom road, a short dis tance from Carlisle, Robert Love was fatally. injured about 9 o'clock this morning. He died In the Carlisle \ Hospital about two hours later. A large motor truck was backed against Love, crushing him between the machine and an embankment along the road. He was hurt Inter nally and was hurried to the hos pital. Love was 65 years old. His home was at Blair's Mills, Hunt ingdon county. Pa., but he had been working in vicinity for several I years.
