Mr. Buller has gone to York to make some inspections and will attend the meeting of the executive commitee of the National Fisheries Association at Baltimore. Big Merger.—The Governor has ap proved the merger of the Marble Hall and Pennsylvania Lodge Building and Loan Associations of Philadelphia un der the name of the Combined Build ing and Loan Association, with a capi tal of $2,000,000. To Meet Monday.—The Public Serv ice Commission has adjourned to meet on Mpnday, when a number of hear ings will be held. To Ask Answers. The jitneymen against whom the Harrisburg Rail ways Company brought complaints for operating without certificates from the Public Service Commission will be asked to give answers to the charges. Hearings will probably be held. Work Is Finished. The State College engineers who have been here Studying the Capitol power plant have finished their work and will go home to write theses. Changes Begun. The changes in the Senate chamber lighting and to tone down the green and gold decora tions were started to-day by workmen under the direction of Miss Violet Oakley. They will be finished in a week. Frosted globes will be in stalled. New Dye Company.—A charter has been issued to a new dyestuff com pany to operate in Pittsburgh, ex perienced dye workers having started it. Abundant capital has been pro vided for it. The Rank Call. For years it was the custom of the State Banking De partment to make public calls for statements of State banks, trust com panies and- savings institutions. This week admission that a call had been issued was made two days after it had been mailed. Some of the members ot the Legislature appeared to find calls for bank statements a fruitful Subject of discussion to-day and some thing may be heard next week. Not Much "Revolt" Not much talk l.as been heard among member* of either branch of the Legislature over a "revolt" against the recesses over the week-ends. The bulk of the members appear to be content to leave the matter to Speaker Baldwin notwithstanding some "hot air" which was printed to-day. The Speaker has shown a level head in dealing with unusual situation and his plans will work out smoothly and greatly to the dissatisfaction of the Democratic ring masters. State. Has Money. The State Treasury statement of January busi ness shows a combined balance, on January 31. of $4,955,975.69. against $4,896,875.23 at the close of December. During January receipts were $2,164,- .">42.9S and expenditures $2,105,442.52. The general fund balance Is $3,598,- 650.90, balances in other funds being: Sinking, $651,110.02; school (unin vested), $9,165.83; game protection, $398,312.83; bounty, $169,889.15: fire insurance (uninvested), $98,604.85; prison labor manufacturing, $30,- 242.11. Schuylkill Men Here. Cofnmittees of Sofauylkill county men were here to-day to discuss the vacancy in the Schuylkill county judgeship which the Governor is expected to fill at an early day. Bids Opened To-dar. Bids were opened at the State Highway Depart ment this morning for bituminous ma terials for use in maintenance work during 1917. The bids were read and ordered checked and it was announced that the successful contractor would be notified later. For the purposes of bidding on bituminous material, the State was divided into four districts, geographically, these districts being the same as last year. Bids were received from the follow ing: Barrett Company, Philadelphia; The Good Boads Company Baltimore; Atlantic Befining Comapny, Philadel phia; Headley flood Broads Company, Philadelphia; United Gas Improve ment Company, Philadelphia; The Beam Fletcher Corporation, Philadel phia; Paul J. Snyder and Company, Philadelphia. To Act Next Week. The Public Service Commission will act next week in the contracts for Philadelphia city street lighting which were submitted on Monday. More Cases Turned Up. More ty phoid fever cases have appeared in the vicinity of Osceola Mills, and it is believed that the total number of cases will run up to 75. Commission er of Health Dixon has detailed Chief Nurse O'Halieran and a number t --nurses and inspectors to combat the disease. A temporary hospital has been established. The department has also received word of an outbreak of smallpox in a labor camp near Johns town. Lancaster Trustors Named.
