Alloona. Pa., Jan. 22. ln disposing
of an estate estimated at more than
$1,000,000, Attorney A. A. Stevens, of
Tyrone, who died several days ago, in
corporates a number of unusual pro
visos In his will. He bequeathed $15,-
000 to his grandson, George Black Stev
ens. Tyrone, to be paid over after the
heir reaches 25 years, "provided he shall
during Ills lifetime abstain from the
use of intoxicating liquors in any form
and from gambling for stakes of any
kind; but I do not mean from this that
he shall abstain from social games for
pleasure."
He also willed $40,000 jointly to two
other grandsons, A. A. Stevens and M.
L. Stevens, children of another son,
under precisely the same conditions.
Mr. Stevens was an uncompromising
foe of the liquor traffic. He bequeath
ed $5,000 to W. F. Crafts, in trust, for
assisting in paying for or improving
the building in Washington, D. C. ( for
the advancement of prohibition, anil
also SI,OOO to Samuel Dickie, of Albion,
Mich., to promote and assist in the pub
lication of The American Advance* pro
viding such paper shall continue to op
pose the liquor traffic.
Among his other public bequests
were: $5,000 to the Central Pennsylva
nia Conference of the Methodist Church
fund for retired ministers; $5,000 for a
free bed in the First Methodist Hos
pital, Philadelphia; $3,000 for drinking
fountains In Tyrone, and $3,000 toward
a library for (lie Tyrone Y. M. C. A.
Liberal bequests were made to rela
tives, etc., and the remainder of his
estate is divided among his wife anil
four grandchildren. He named as his
executors Ills son, J. Ilowo Stevens; his
law partner. W. 1* Paw-oe. and his busi
ness manager, K. I>"rank Frain. The
