Thaw Growing Stronger, but Mind Is Still Cloudy Philadelphia, Jan. 18. The condi tion of Harry K, Thaw, who is In a hos-ii HARRISBURG TELEGRAPH pital here recovering from . azor wounds self-inflicted a week ago to day, is reported as satisfactory by Dr. I'.lwood R. Klrby, his Philadelphia phy sician. The doctor denied reports that Thaw Is growing weaker and ssaid he is slowly getting stronger. His mind is still a little cloudy. Dr. Kirby asid, but it is gradually clearing. Thaw's moiner, who had been at the hospital several days, has sought se clusion to avoid letter writers and others who, her friends say, are annoy ng her about her son's case. So far as can be learned the family has not deft- I nltely decided what action it will take i regarding Thaw's extradition to New York. It was reiterated to-day that nothing will be ltaally decided upon un til Thaw is in ■fdpdition to take part in a family conference. Detective Goes Amuck A detective named Kelly, employed by a private agency who has been doing duty at 5 260 Walnut street, JANUARY 18, 1917. | where Harry K. Thaw attempted sui j cide last week, became hysterical to day and shot up the house. When the police arrived he was in a semi conscious condition and was taken to a hospital. The police say he claimed that some one had struck htm and that he then began shooting around the room in which Thaw attempted to take his own life. Kelly told the po lice that he heard a knock on a win- down and then was struck with a beer bottle. Scratches and blood were found on Kelly. According to the police Kelly was sent to the house to guard it in tho absence of the family who have left the place temporarily. The police are making an investigation to determine whether the man had been drinking or was suffering from hallucinations.
