U. S. Steel Rises Briskly; Paper
Issues, Sugars and Fertilizers
in Demand
New York, Nov. 24. —With few ex
ceptions, early pains were materially :
extended, coppers leading the advance. ;
TT. S. Steel also rose briskly on con- '
tldent absorption and other industrials 1
were free from the depression of the i
previous day. Gulf States Steel made
an extreme recovery of 17% points '
from its recent severe decline and spe- '
jciaities comprising 'paper issues,
sugars and fertilizers were in demand.
Equipments kept pace with the rising
j movement but Bethlehem Steel
yielded 19 points, with heaviness in
Canadian Pacific, although other high
, grade _rails continued to improve. '
Chile 7's at an advance of 4 pointsj
again featured the bond market.

Yawns During Sermon,
He Is Fined SSO by Jury
Lexington. Ky., Nov. 16.—Henry
i Hipshire paid S2O in county court to
day for his lack of constraint while
Pastor Bottom was working up to his
peroration in the course of a sermon at
the old Union Church, Loradole, two
weeks ago. As the congregation hung
spellbound on the words of the minis
ter, the jury was told, Hipshire wear
ily abandoned himsel fto an abysmal
yawn. ,
It wasn't yawn in the narrow defi
nition. the jury was told. I£ was more
.a cross between a sigh, a groan and a
yawn. There was such a tinge of dis
taste and aggressiveness in it, it was
said, that Hipshire was both ejected
and arrested. "Disturbing public wor
ship" was the charge filed in the
county court on which the jury re
turned a verdict of guilty.
