(6-18 NOWOUNDED ON BOARD BRITANNIC Fifty Lost and 28 Hurt of Crewj 'ami Hospital Corps on Monster Ship London, Nov. 23.—Press dispatches from Athens saying there were no wounded on board the hospital ship Britannic when it was sunk oft the Greek coast were confirmed to-day by the Admiralty. Of those aboard, fifty were lost, twenty-eight were injured and 1,100 saved. Admiralty officials have little to add to the official announcement except to state the Britannic was sunk In the daytime. "Whether she was torpedoed or mined has not yet been determined, the Athens dispatch not being accept ed as official. The Admiralty has been advised that many submarines were operating in the vicinity. The medical staffs and the members of the crew numbered more than 500. The Britannic was the largest Brit ish ship afloat. She was completed at the beginning of the war. but her maiden trip to the United States was postponed indefinitely. Since 1914 she has been in the service of the Britisli Government. She was a vessel of 4 8,- ' 15S tons gross, being second in size only to the German liner Vaterland among the steamships of the world. Used as Hospital Ship The Britannic almost since the be ginning of the war was used for u 1 hospital ship. She was painted white, and strung between her two forward | funnels was a huge Red Cross emblem, I illuminated at night by incandescent lights. She was not armed. As a hospital ship the White Star liner had accommodation for 2,500 in jured soldiers, 100 surgeons, 200 nurses and orderlies and a crew of several hundred men.
