So ar dent was he in the belief of Charles Evans Hughes' election, Mendle Kirsch, a native of Baltimore, and a merchant here, agreed to treat tho members of the Alpha club, an or ganization he belonged to, to a roast chicken supper at one of the local hotels, if Mr. Hughes was elected. Af ter he had received the news that Mr. Hughes had defeated President Wil son, Mr. Kirsch set about preparing for the feast and made arrangements with the hotel proprietor to serve the supper. Later reports appeared to show Wilson was the winner—but too ldte for Mr. Kirsch to cancel tho sup per contract. Twenty-five young men enjoyed the Hughes supper at Mr. Klrsch's expense. BEVEN BOYS BORN Blain, Pa.. Nov. 9. Within the past few weeks seven boys were born in this section within a-radius of a few miles. They are: Twins to Mr. and Mrs. William Snyder; twins to Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Bower, and sons to Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Woods, to the Rev. and Mrs. J. W. Keener, and to Mr. and Mrs. Russell Martin. SILK MILL SITE BOUGHT Sunbury, Pa., Nov. 9. Record of tho transfer of the property upon which is building a mammoth silk mill for the J. H. & C. K. Eagle company, at Shumokin, was made to-day. It shows that the concern paid John Mul len, a retired iron founder, $65,000 for the nearly two full city blocks of prop erty. It was the largest deal recorded In Northumberland county this year. $50,000 Paving Case Lost by Pottsville Pottsvllle, Pa., Nov. 9.—A decision re ceived from Justlco Kephart of the Su perior Court, Anally decides that prop erty owners of Market street, this city, need not pay $50,000 charged against them by the city for paving with wood blocks. Justice Kephart declared' that as Mar ket street was macadamized before be ing paved with the wood blocks this must be considered an original paving. The city, therefore, cannot collect from the property owners the price of a sec ond paving. Every third class city in the State is bound by the decision and a number of suits are pending on the same issue. GIIU; DUES FROM TYPHOID Millerstown, Pa., Nov. 9.
