2 ENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA NEWS MASS MEETING AT MARYSVULE Enthusiastic Republicans Hear Speeches at Diamond Hall From Candidates Marysvllle, Pa.. Oct. 31.—An en thusiastic Republican mass meeting WSB held at Diamond Hall here last evening with a big crowd present from town and the surrounding towns. About .130 came from Duncannon with the Duncannon band. The Marysvllle band also furnished music during the evening. The meeting was held at the conclusion of a parade over the prin cipal streets of the town. District Attorney James McKee, of New Bloomfleld, presided and intro duced the speakers of the evening. B. K. I'ocht, candidate for Congress, de livered the principal address, speak ing on the "Eight-Hour Law." Ad dresses were also made by State Sen ator Franklin Martin and J. S. Eby, candidate for the Legislature. PIKETOWN LITERARY SOCIETY Piketown. Pa.. Oct. 31.—At the iirst meeting of the Forney Literary Society held at the Forney schoolhouse the at tendance of members was good and a large number of visitors were present. The program was varied, including music by the girls' quartet and the boys' quartet, as well as by the school. There were several original essays on historical subjects and a number of recitations. Johnson, df Harrisburg, organist and director of the choir. He will remove to this city within a few weeks. EIRE THREATENS ORCHARDS Hagerstown. Md.. Oct. 31.—A large mountain fire, of unknown origin, swept over a thousand acres of tim ber land between Smithsburg and Wolfsville and crossed the summit of South Mountain near Pen Mar before teveral score of residents could check the flames. The fire threatened the large pe'acli orchard of Arthur and George Chrusson, near Smithsburg. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Snavcly, and by two sons. ENGINEER CRITICALLY ILL Waynesboro, Pa., Oct. 31. Ex- School Director S. P. Ambrose is in a critical condition at his home here. Mr. Ambrose, who is engineer at -he Emerson-Brantingham Company's plant, went into the engineroom yes terday morning to turn on a valve of the machinery. When he had not re turned after a fen- minutes Joseph Harris, another employe, went in to investigate and found him unconscious on the floor. The death toll from the typhoid epidemic in this section reached twelve cases when Edgar Heckman of Upper Mifflin township, died in the Carlisle Hospital after a short illness. The force of the epi demic is abating, health officers say. Hazleton Employes of the G. B. Markle Company, at Yeddo, were called out to fight a serious brush fire raging near the Highland No. 6 col liery. which was menaced for a time by the flames. Brush fires are re ported all over the region. They will be in camp for two weeks. Women on Perry Co. Farms Help to Harvest Corn Crop Blain, Pa., Oct. 31. A large corn crop is being husked by the farmers of this section and the weather has been especially fine for this work. In nvany localities the women of the household have left their housework and are giving their assistance to the men tn the field in putting- away the bumper crop. Mar shall of Annville, has opened an otttce in .Lebanon. He is the fifteenth Dr. Marshall to practice medicine in this family. He graduated at Lebanon Valley College in 1911 and afterwards completed his medical course at Uni versity of Pennsylvania with honors.
