New Germantown, Pa., April 15.
New Germantown was laid out in the
year 1816 and the 100 th anniversary'
will be celebrated on May 30, and
preparations for the event are now be- \
ins made. The first house built in
the village was a log' one which stood j
in what is now the M. E. graveyard
and probably burned down, as a few
years ago the sexton in digging a ,
grave, unearthed several pieces of
charred logs. Prof. William P.
Trostle, principal of the Houtzdale
schools, visited his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. A. M. Trostle at Mt. Pleasant.
Guy C. Swartz an engineer in the
Enola freight yards visited friends
here, his former home. Miss
Myers of Marysville, is visiting Mrs. i
H. E. Keim who is ill. John
Shearer of Andersonburg visited his
father, M. H. Shearer. Mr. and
Mrs. Bricker of Marietta, were guests
of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Abner Watts. Grover Stitzel has
gone to lowa and Foster Gutshall to
Illinois. Samuel Shields of lowa, ,
visited his sister, Mrs. Derwin Hollen

the implements is an occupation that '
.frequently causes a disease called "ax
grinders' consumption" to the men en- j
gaged in the work. To obviate that 1
danger, E. P. Alexander, superin- 1
tendent of the Yeagertown plant, has
designed a hood to cover the emery r
wheels and the dust and grit are car
ried off through large suction pipes.
