Supporting orders resulted in rallies of 1 to over 2 points before the end of the first liour and the short interest, which helped to bring about the early set back, felt impelled to cover contracts because of the seeming scarcity of stocks. On the rebound the market re .lapsed Into Its stagnant state of the previous day, traders holding off pending receipt of more detlnite ad vices from Berlin. Interest in the foreign situation was heightened by the continued weakness of French and Russian exchange, the Paris check tailing to a new low record. Bonds were steady. In the first place, while there are several city police censor ship boards, there are only three State Boards in the whole country, not. twenty-seven. Another was added re cently by the passage of the Censor ship Bill in Maryland." After outlining the high caliber of | the board, the statement continues: "This mere statement shows tho | absurdity of the attempted reflection ;on our board. It is but part of a j well-organized plan of the moving pic jture interests to defeat censorship in j this State and elsewhere. They are playing for big stakes. If they were [ free to show some of tho hair-raising I sensational suggestions of immorality jof all phases which, thanks to the 1 policy of the State, have so far been 1 kept from our hundreds and thou j sands of school children and of the young men and women maturing as I we hope into clean and pure man j hood and womanhood, it would mean ] limitless returns to them. That is tho whole reason for their rather ingenu j ous cry for a 'free' screen. I believe j motion picture censorship in Pennsyl j vania is here to stay. The purpose | of the legislation is beneflcient to the j highest degree and that its accom plisliment Is likewise beneficient, can j always be demonstrated by showing i the filth that the board has, during its administration, ordered eliminated , from pictures which would otherwise i have been shown to the people young and old—of our State." Who Said National Guard Men Are Unprepared ? If the records of Captain O. M.Cope- I lin, Eighth regimental inspector of Ismail arms practice of the National | Guard, are any indication of Guards : men's "preparedness," then that I crack regiment is in pretty good shape Ito cope with most any emergency. 1 During the rifle season extending from 1 May 1 to October 31, just 884 men at tended rifle practice and of this num ber 704 did their shooting on the reg ular shooting ranges.
