Steel was strong, however, rising % to 85% be fore the partial reversal of the second hour. • Strength of coppers was accounted for by reports that the French Gov ernment had placed a large order for the metal in this market. Reading was the only rail to manifest more than ordinary activity, but was un der pressure, as were Union Pacific and Erie. Anglo French s's were ac tive and strong. Other bonds were steady. t NEW YORK STOCKS Chandler Bros. & Co., members New lork and Philadelphia Stock Ex changes, 3 North Market Square, Har risburg; 1338 Chestnut street, Phila delphia; 34 Pine street, New York, furnish the following quotations: New York, March 29. C., March 29. — Should President Yuan Shi Kai and the rebel Chinese governors who have demanded his immediate retirement fail to come to terms, officials here believe, the result would be a long and destructive civil war in China, it is known that Yuan Shi Kai has pro vided himself with a formidable army, according to Chinese standards, which would probably be loyal to him so long as he was willing to draw upon his large sources of revenue for their pay. So far neither the State Depart ment nor the Chinese legation has re ceived any official advices concerning the events in Peking since Yuan's mandate renouncing the throne. Leading Hunt For Villa COLONEL GEORGE A. DODD Colonel George A. Dodd, has led the hunt for Pancho Villa since he left Hachlta with troopers from two regiments of cavalry. He had made marches through the desert country of Mexico such as have not been made during the war in Europe. It is believed If Villa is caught it will be by Colonel Dodd's troops.
