The week open ed with a renewal of the liquidation and selling pressure that characterized last week's operations. Losses of one to two points were recorded by all active is sues, rails showing better resist ance. however, than industrials and specialties. Trading was moderate, I nited States Steel alone being offered in fairly large quantles. Its Initial sale was a block of 5.000 shares at 81, fol lowed by smaller transactions at an ad vance of 81 % against Saturday's clos ing price of S2» t . There were virtually no exceptions to the heavier trend, the movement embracing all parts of the list. Recoveries of fractions to a full point were made later. Sc'ling became more extensive on the partial willy, Steel, the Harrimans, Reading, • Erles. Anaconda and Ameri can Smelting showing greater heavi ness, while specialties were acutely weak. Steel fell to 80 , Bethlehem 15 and Alcohol, Continental Can, Interna tional Nickel and Texas Company three to seven points. Commission houses were active in the movement, indicat ing .in extension of the liquidation to out-of-town sources. Traders were almost universally bearish, basing their attitude on week end developments at home and abroad. T he heavy dealings of the morning were wholly at tlie e.spense of values, no ma terial improvement being recorded at noon. Bonds were heavy. NEW YORK STOCKS Chandler Bros.
