Demands increased freight business during October is bringing additional inquir ies for equipment. Hurry orders aro coming from all quarters of the globe. The Pennsylvania railroad is asking bids on from 1,000 to 2,000 gondola coal cars and from 1,000 to 5,000 hop per cars, used for carrying coal, in ad dition to the 2,00.0 cars now being: built in the company's shops. These cars are for use on the lines east of Pitts burgh. On the lines west, inquiries are being made, for 3,500 cars. Lackawanna is asking for prices on 2,000 to 1,000 steel under frame, 500 gondola, and 500 hopper. The Pekin-Kalgan Railway has or dered six locomotives from the Ameri can Locomotive Company, four Pacific type, and two Mikado. The Bethlehem Steel Corporation has ordered two locomotives from the American locomotive Company. Record Freight Month The Pennsylvania Railroad's freight business for the month of October was the greatest for any one month in years. Measured in loaded cars passing eight representative points on lines east of Pittsburgh, the traffic amount ed to 896,769 cars, an increase of 172,- 422 cars or virtually 25 per cent, over the September showing.
