Barba, vice-president of the Midvale Steel and Ordnance Company, last night confirmed, in substance, the re port that this company had accepted an order for several million of rifles for the Russian government. A possible panic in a London theater during the last Zeppelin raid was averted through the audience mistaking the explosion of a boinli dropped nearby for a hit or stage realism, according to Colina Cockburn, of Toronto, Canada, who ar rived to-day on the steamship Tuscania from Liverpool. Mr. Coclthurn was in a theater on the night of October 13. He said a Zeppelin bomb exploded close to the theater, hut an automobile on the statre had just been cranked and the audi ence thought It was a cleverly arrang ed bacKiire of the motor. Laughs greeted the explosion and the audience remained ignorant of the air raid until the close of the play.
