Very decided ; : recovery from the weakness which overtook the market on the sinking of - of the Arabic was scored this week. ■ The evident desire of the German Gov- I ernment to maintain amicable relations with this country conduced largely ■ toward the market's recuperation. t The various metal stocks shared in t the advance, most of them again mak -1 ing substantial gains as a result of the . much higher prices quoted for copper - abroad together with a marked increase • In orders for home and foreign con sumption. Additional price advances in ■ steel and iron products, as well as al [ lied metals, brought these securities in to greater prominence and imparted pronounced strength. 1 „ u V" tt ' ed States Steel was easily the 1 chief speculative itilluence in its over turn of almost 1,000.000 shares since last Saturday, at a more or less sUadv , rise, going far to restore confidence. It's . best price of the week—77—recorded • ?#*A er 2? y / P laced within live-eighths ; Quotation for several weeks. The most to be said of the railroads . is that prices held Arm in investment I on datively small dealings. A f sudden upward spurt in most of the low-priced railway shares now under going reorganization or financial re adjustment, seemed to have its founda tion in the very promising crop pros pects. 'l In the broader realm of finance, for eign exchange caused renewed unset tlement, demand sterling falling to 4.6814, making a new low record for . that remittance. Paris checks and ■ other Continental exchange also be t come acutely weak. NEW YORK STOCKS Furnished by E. S. Goshorn, 208-209 Arcade Buildifig. New York, Aug. 28. 'I ~ , Open. High. Low. Clos.
