She had a co defendant her mother. Mrs. Lottie Laver of the same address, who was accused of perjury in having sworn falsely to an application for a mar riage license in this city on March 14 last, that her daughter was unmar ried. A charge of conspiracy also was made against both defendants. Documentary proof showed that Evangeline Laver was married to Samuel Raughley. a chauffeur, of 60 Summer Grove avenue, Bryn Mawr, on December 14, 1914, before Justice of the Peace A. F. Lenhardt, at Nor rlstown. This marriage, Agent Kinkade of th« Society to Protect Children from cuelty said did not prevent her contracting a second one on March 23, 1915, before the Rev. W. E. Chalfont, In North Thirteenth street, this city, with John E. Brown, another chauffeur, of 1929 South Twelfth street, who was the re puted father of the Infant figuring in the police court hearing. Mrs. Laver was alleged to have committed perjury in swearing before the marriage license clerk that her daughter had never been married be fore. It appeared the girl had been In love with Brown, who boarded at her mother's home and was employed by the Adams Express company. When he was arrested on a charge of em bezzlement the girl, believing ho would be given a long term of imprisonment, married Raughley, but after the birth of the Infant there was a separation, Raughley Insisting that his mothcr-in la,w drove him away from her home. GOVERNOR PLANS TO DISPLAY STATE [Continued from First Pag®.] and traverse for one week many of the most Important highways of the State. Highway Commissioner Cunningham and his assistants are now preparing a suitable itinerary which will em brace many points of interest and cover some of the most impressive of the scenic features of Pennsylvania. Governor Brumbaugh is thoroughly familiar not only with the historic points of interest which may be reached by good roads in this State, I but is likewise acquainted with the picturesque mountain and river scen ery which may be seen on a tour of this kind. It Is his purpose to notify local motor clubs of the proposed tour so that they may be ready to discuss road problems and other matters af fecting the opening up of Pennsylvania ■ to its own people and the tourists or I other States. Luncheon will usually be taken on this trip in some attrac tive grove along the way. Invitations will be issued to many prominent men to participate in the tour with a view to spreading the idea of seeing Penn sylvania first. To Eliminate Toil Roads The Governor Is deeply Interested in the Improvement of the roads of the S'#e and is in constant touch wtth Highway Commissioner Cunningham and his engineers, discussing with them the methods of betterment. So far as possible he is going to elimi nate the toll roads so that the high ways may be free to the people. He also believes that Harrlsburg should be the hub of the best roadway sys tem possible in this section of Penn sylvania.
