The grand duke visited America in llic Fall of 1913 and was a guest of Mr 3. John Astor at Beechwood, New port. it is paid that his mission at that time was the placing of orders for i war materials in this country. The grand duko was 44. eight weeks older than the Czar. He was the fourth son of Grand Duke Michael and a grandson o!' Czar Nicholas 1. His mother was the Princess of Baden. When quite young Alexander married the sister of the Czar. He was reck oned as one of the wealthiest mem bers of tho imperial family. Grand Duko Alexander visited Har risburg on his way to Gettysburg and took luncheon at tho Senate.
