Frey has returned from a tour through the Holy Land, In company with a number of others from different sec tions of tho State. He brought with him hundreds of specimen of work manship and many curios from the Old World. Some of them mere made by natives as he passed through the various shops. Sir. Frey was former ly of the firm of S. F. Frey & Son, be ing one of the oldest business men in the borough. The business is now conducted by his son, Samuel L. Frey. Frederick Wolf, of Lancaster, veteran and well known barber recently retired from active life, just rounding out 70 years in September. He was born in Ger many, but came to this country with his father and family when ten years old. In his teens he entered the bar ber shop of the late Christopher Lil ler, in September 1, 1858, and learn ed the trade. In he entered the Union Army in the Civil War, and was wounded In the shoulder by a shell at the battle of Spottsylvania, and at Pet ersburg was shot through the body, the bullet entering the lower bowels and I coming out of the back. This last wound retired him from military ser vice. So he is a "double veteran." At the close of the war, and on his re covery he opened a tonsorial parlor next to the old Cooper House, at Lan caster, and from there moved to the building of the old Inland and Insur ance Deposit Bank, from where he re tires, after forty years in the business. His most distinguished customers wore President James Buchanan and Thad deus Stevens. It is not generally known that the latter was a hairless man, whose face never knew a razor, and In early life he lost all the hair of his head. Hence he always wore a wig, which Mr. Wolf cared for for Air. Stevens. For forty years Mr. Wolf was the private and confidential servi tor of Justice J. Hay Brown. Levi S. Hlehl succeeds Mr. Wolf.
