Important Trade For
Mr. Muggsy McGraw
Special to The Telegraph
New York, Sept. 28.—Local base
ball fans are Interested In a reported
trade between the New York and Chi
cago League clubs whereby the Giants
got Ileinie Zimmerman, the Cubs'
hard-hitting third baseman, in ex
change for Pitcher Rube Marquard,
Eddie Grant, utility inflelder, and Ar
thur Dues, also an inflelder. McGraw
has always wanted Zimmerman,
whose home is here.
It Is reported that while the deal
had been completed none of the play
ers mentioned except Bues, who has
already joined the Chicago club, will
charge their uniforms this season.
Officers of the New York club re
fused either to deny or confirm the
report.
Later Manager John J. McGraw, of I
the Giants, declared that no such
trade had been made or was pending.
"X have not even figured on a trade
for Zimmerman," he said. "He is a
valuable man, I know, but I haven't
opened any negotiations for him. I
do not expect to think of trades of
any kind until next winter."
A I.MOST FATAL (INJURY *
IN GAME AT DICKINSON
Special to The Telegraph
Carlisle, Pa., Sept. 28. Dickinson
football men had a bad scare Saturday
night and early yesterday over the
injuries to Beverly Garrett, fullback
on the Western Mart-land football
team, which played here on Saturday.
Garrett was tackled by Groome with
eight seconds to play. The fullback
banked his head on the ground, and
in a few minutes writhed In violent
convulsions. Opiates were adminis
tered and the unfortunate youth was
rushed later to the Todd Hospital.
Through the night his condition
seemed to Improve. Other convulsions
followed yesterday, but Dr. E. Roberts
Plank, in charge, said last evening that
Garrett had so far Improved that un
less more convulsions occurred, the
patient would be sent home to-day in
charge of Coach John Fclton, who
stayed with him. Dr. Plank has now
hopes that Garrett will fully recover
from what is diagnosed as brain con
cussion.
Garrett himself yesterday said upon
recovering consciousness that he was
originally injured last year by being
kicked at the brain base, and then
had similar violent convulsions. Gar
rett is 19 years old, and lives at Fair

Two World's Records
by Mercury Athletes
New York, Sept. 28. —More than a
thousand members of the New York
Athletic Club and three times that
number of their friends saw two
world's records fall before the speed
of a quintet of sturdy athletes bearing
their club's emblem Saturday.
Homer Baker, the national half
mile champion, carried the mercury
foot to victory in the 660-yard special
race in record time, and Kulin, Wil
kie, McNally and Lennon, composing a
relay team, won the 1200-yard relay
race in unprecedented time.
Baker traveled the five furlongs in
1.20 1-5, clipping one and one-fifth
seconds from the old world's mark
made by Molvin Sheppard four years
ago. The relay team, each man run
ning 300 yards, traveled the distance
in 2.06 4-5, beating by two seconds
it he record hung up by the Irlsh
-1 American A. C. team last year at
Celtic Park.
