Sept. 16. —August im ports touched the lowest point reached in any month since November, 1911, and August exports the lowest point reached in any month since August, 1909. Imports of merchan dise during August, 1914, according to preliminary figures just completed by the Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, department of commerce totaled $129,399,496 compared with $137,651,663 in August, 1913, and $154,759,770 in August. 1912; while in the eight months ended with August, Imports were valued at $1,269,992,- 569 against $1,156,300,228 in 1913 and $1,188,075,234 in 1912. August exports amounted to sllO,- 337,545, compared with $187,909,092 in August, 1913, and $167,844,87 1, in August, 1912; while in the eight months ended with August they were $1,311,319,707 against $1,515,182,157 in 1913 and $1,416,346,429 in 1912.
