THE MARKETS INTENSE EXCITEMENT ON NI EXCHANGE Alarming Reports From Abroad; Rally Follows Initial Depression By Associated Press New York, July 29. lntense ex citement and wild trading attended the early hours on the Stock Ex change to-day. Advices from abroad were again of an alarming character, with heavy losses in such American stocks as were quoted by the London Stock Exchange. Initial losses here ran from four to five points in many of the better known securities, Includ ing Great Northern, Pfd., Reading, Amalgamated Copper, Utah Copper, Anaconda, St. Paul, Consolidated Gas and Soo. Canadian Pacific, the weak est of the high-grade issues recently, opened at a slight advance. Steel, which was traded in in lots of 2,000 to 5,000 shares, opened with a decline of 1 3 4. A rally of one to two points en sued under the lead of Reading, Great Northern, Union Pacific, Southern Pa cific and St. Paul. The output of stock was so large that no bond transactions were recorded in the first thirty min utes. A general rally followed the early demonstration, some stocks, notably Canadian Pacific, selling well above yesterdays close. The movement had all the indications of substantial bank ing support, together with extensive in vestment purchases by so-called bar .■> hunters. Canadian Pacific's gain of 4% points was attributed to direct buying by Berlin, where conditions were much Improved. Paris sold our Coppers here and London bought and sold. At the end of the first hour, in which trading assumed the enormous total of 340,000 shares, over a score of issues had registered complete re covery. Furnished bj- H. W.
