Harrisburg, Pa. CLAFUN RECEIVERSHIP WAS FEATURE OF WEEK Prices Yielded but Little; Shares of Few Commercial Com panies Registered D eclines in Wall Street By Associated Press New York, June 27. The Claflin re ceivership was the all-important fea ture of the week in the stock market, throwing into the background all such considerations ns the freight rate qeus tlon, gold exports, which continued in more moderate volume, and the Mexi can mediation negotiations, which at last accounts gave promise of an early solution. It is yet too soon to gauge the full effect of the Claflin failure, but even now it is evident that among its many results will be a curtailment of commercial credits. The stock market, it must be admit ted, gave an indubidable exhibitions of strength In the face of extraordinary conditions. That prices yielded but lit tle must be accepted as evidence of the market's liquidated condition. Shares of a few commercial companies, par ticularly that identified with the in solvent corporation, registered declines, but other wise the list hold relatively firm. Conditions in the steel industry re main unchanged, albeit trade authori ties express the opinion that the last half of the year will be worse than the first half. Copper metal continued to shade in price, and the state of that trade reflected a further reduction In demand. Crop conditions, except for unfavor able weather In parts of the Middle West and Southwest, lose little of their bright promise. Railroad returns for May, as reported the larger transporta tion companies, were mainly disapp ointing. Quoted rates for time money show little change, chiefly because of dull business, but a more active demand is expected before August. Furnished by 11. W. SNAVEI.V Arcade Building New York, June 27.
