Mr. Sadler's retire ! nient dates from May 1. His papers ! were delayed enroute and arrived with the June pension list yesterday. ! "Old Joe," as he was more familiarly known by an army of railroaders, serv ' ed as a clerk, yardmaster, car inspector, i brakeman and lineman. His llrst em ployment was as a lineman with the Northern Central Railway Company. Mf. Sadler moved to Wormleysburg in ! 1874. 11l 1875 Mr. Sadler was a brake ! man doing duty in Bridgeport yards, now known as Lemoyne, and worked with the Cumberland Valley Railroad yard crew. ! This crew was made up of men who I served many years on the railroad, and included, George Monatli, engineer, deceased; William Murray, conductor; Andrew Seister, Frank Murray, Adam J Seibert, Benjamin Sadler and Joseph Sadler, brukement. I While serving as brakeman, Mr. I Sadler looked after the movement of the only passenger car operated by the Northern Central Railroad Company between Marysville and Harrisburg. This car was hauled by an engine to Bridgeport, and by gravity to Harris burg, in care of Brakeman Sadler. In 1894 Mr. Cadler was promoted to yardmaster at night and served in that capacity for thirteen years. In 1906 he was assigned to daylight duty. In 1907 the Northern Central Railroad Com pany discontinued the position of yard master at Lemoyne and Mr. Sadler has been serving as yard clerk at night since that time. ! Mr. Sadler is a son of the late : Samuel and Hettie Sadler, and was ; born September 9, 1841, near Oyster's ! Point, Cumberland county. He spent I his boyhood days on the farm with his parents. At the age of six years Mr, Sadler moved with the family to Mid dlesex and resided in that vicinity for ,ten years. When 23 years of age Mr. I Sadler married Maria Catherine Nel son. daughter of Josiah and Elizabeth Nelson. Two children were born and both are now residents of the borough of Wormleysburg; Robert N. Sadler and Mrs. William Evans, his daughter, with whom Mr. Sadler now resides.
