Reduction of Dividends Unexpected in Street Generally Known That Company's Earnings Had Fallen Ofif During Year By Associated Press I New York, March 25. ■— The reduo | tlon of dividends on the common and j preferred Btock of Pittsburgh, Clncln -1 nati, Chicago and St. Louis was not ex ! pected in Wall Street, and the common ! stock slumped violently. It opened to- I day at 83, and on the news of the divi dend-cut dropped several points at a time to 70. The preferred stock, which is inactive, was not disturbed. I The bulk of the loss in dividends falls |on the Pennsylvania Railroad, which owns $23,390,000 of the *45,000,000 com • mon stocks, and $22,162,000 of the $30,- 1000,000 preferred stock. Although no 'change in the dividend rate was looked for, it was generally known that the earnings of Pennsylvania's Western , lines had fallen oft severely during the last year. This was responsible for a recent decline in the common stock of I Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. i IJOUIS, which last month sold twenty one points above the low mark reached ! to-day. I The stock of the Pennsylvania Rall- I road broke nearly two points. Furnished by H. W. SNAVEU Arcade Building New York, March 25. „ Open. 2.30 P.M.
