Ov account of a rush ol job-work our pa per is a little belated this week, consequent ly our patrons will please excuse the printer for the few hours delay of his paper. WE HAVE been requested to give notice that Rev. J. R. Shanafelt will preach in the New Baptist Church, at this place, on Sab bath next, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, and at early candle light in the evening. DON'T lorget the Mechanics' Celebration at Espy oil next Saturday, and turn out en nwtite A good altdmlauce is expected.— ( Able Orators have been invited and are ex pected to be present. A good time awaits j the occasion. The Genesct Farmer, one of the very best Agricultural publications, has arrived at our sanctum for September. It is a very good publication, and cheap—only 50 cents per year, by club. Every farmer ought to have it. ROBERT CAIHCAKT'S jewelry shop was entered a few nights since by some lawless scamp and robbed of a nujnber of spoons and spectacles. They effected an entrance by taking a pane of glass out of the win dow. Fortunately for Mr. Cathcart he bad taken all his valuables out of the shop in the early part ol the evening. THE St. Colttmbkill's Unman Catholic Church of this place was opened for Di vine worship on last Sabbath. The Choir of St. Joseph's Church, of Danville, was in attendance Two Grand High Masses were celebrated, after which a sermon was preached by ltev. 1' A. l'rendergast, ol J'itls\on, Pa. The e.verci-es were pretty well attended. THE farmers throughout the county are busy sowing their winter wheat. The see ding time is here, and in a few weeks the winter grain will all be in the ground.— Columbia is a good wheat growing county. This season the crops of wheat in this coun ty were good. The yield was far greater than last year. The corn crop bids tair in .some parts of the count I }' to be an abundant yield. '1 he potato crop is doing tolerably well. JOHN FI.ETCHEH, the colored man who was committed to jail for stealing goods from the store ol Bowman & Freas, of Berwick, has had his trial anil received his sentence, which is twelve calendar months in the Pen herniary at hard labor. The theft?commit ted by Fletcher were of a pretty bold char acter and rather extensively carried on He will have a good lime to repent of his bad doings and probably come out a better man. resolved never again to take that which does not belong to him. FOR SAI.E.—We would offer for sale, cheup, two certificates or orders, one on the Iron City College, Pittsburgh, l'a , the other on the Mercantile College, Philadelphia, Pa., payable in tuition, twenty dollars each. As they are of no use to its, wej would dis pose ol them at a low figure, for cash These Colleges are tie very best in the State; we hear them highly spoken of Irom all quarters. Young men wishing to fit themselves out lor the counting room, and obtain a thorough busine.-s education, to enable them to take charge of any set ol books and earn a salary from SSOO to SIOOO per year, these are just the schools they should attend. See advertisement of these Colleges in another part of this paper. As we go to press Court is still in session. We will not be nble to give any proceed ings in this number of our paper. Next week'we will give them entire. Courl is not as.largely attended as we had anticipa ted, although quite a good attendance. All parts ol the county aro represented. Peo ple are to be seen here of all classes and sizes. We are not without the Patent medi cine men, brawling in our streets, retailing their cure allt, and humbuging the people Our streets are made the scene of great .excitement with their loud harangues to the people that gather around them. These pill and ointment men are, ir. the estimation of some people, most eloquent orators Those people who think them such are the very ones who are deluded and hood-wink ed ; or in other words cheated, by the pur of their bogus trash. THE GKEAT I EATERE Of lhin series of Domestic Remedies is that each patticular medicine is a Specific for the patlicuiar disease orclass of diseases whose name it bears, and may be relied upon for the cure ol thai particular affection. Hence, persons suffering from a chronic disease or long standing ailment, in buying a case of Humphreys' Specifics, obtain the particular one desired in their case, and thus them selves make a core which otherwise would cost them many dollars, and no small a mount of (line ami medical aiteudance, if, indeed, it could be obtained at all. Thus mult mules sutler Irom Dispepsia, Bilhous, Cosnvettess, Bad Taste, Coaled Tongue, and Debility, which is perfectly controlled and cured by the DYSPEPSIA SPECIFIC. There is scarcely a phase or lorrn of this disease which is not promptly coitrolled and ultimately cured by the use ol this Specific. Thousands who have sufiered for years with this 'Billions Condition" having purchased a case ol these Specifics have obtained a perfect cure and immunity liom their old complaint. COUGHS, COEDS, AND SOKE THROAT which so freqnenly lead tc BKONCHins AND CONSUMPTION, are all iti their early stage cured by the COUGH PILLS. Many caes of long standing Bronchitis and irritating Coughs have been perfectly cured by this Specific. But more ! many persons have a specific liability to colds and take them from the least exposure. This will be entirely relieved by the use of the Cough Pills, us scores cat) testify from experience : So CATARRH is one of our most common and mnsttroublesoine diseases, against which the Old School Medicines and even Ho moeopathic prescriptions, are of little use.— Yet hundreds cf persons have been cured of not only recent and fresh, but even long standing and obstinate cases of Catarrh by the use ol this Specihc. One aged lady in Syracuse was thus per fectly cuied ol a Catarrh, which had auoyed I hei all her life. And a young la.ly at one ol I our first class boarding schools, who was so | afiiicied w>ih ibis disease as to require more than forty handkerchiefs a week, was en tirely cured it) a single week by this Speci fic. PILES, bleeding and blind, is one of those common and obstinate lotrns of disease which are so difficult to cure by tlie ordinary methods, but which find an entire luudamenial cure tit the Piles Specific'. True, time is requir. Ed ; but the Specific is pleasant to lake, re quires neither diet nor restraint, and being lollowe.l up a perfect cure is the result.— Hundreds of peisons, in purchasing a cure ol Specifics, have obtained a cure for this most Iryiug and obstinate lorrn of disease, which has been woith to them ten times the cost of the entire set. The case contains lire best FEVER AND AGUE SPECIEIC known. A remedy without any deterious or poisonous substance, whieh not only cures the gue, and old, mismanaged agues, but may be relied upon us a preventive when persons are residing in a laver and ague district. It prevents or protects upon the same principle that vaccination prevents small pox or bellailonuo prevents searlel le ftover, by pre-occupying the system with the true specific. Hundreds have been ttius protracted and cured. THE OPHTHALMY SPECIFIC lias proved a most valuatile remdy lor Sore Eyes and Ktelids, ami lor Weak and Blur- j red Sight. One lady iiiTudiatia, wf?o had been a sufferer from sore eyes for many years, and fortwo years was entirely blind, was cured perfectly by the Ophlhalmy Spe cific alone. HEADACHES to whieh so many ate subject, find a cura tive in the case. There is a specific which relievet at die time ol the attack, and also one which corrects die coinliiton ol the sys tem upon whieh it depends, and destroys the di-posiiion to a return. The Specifies for die various forms of FEMALE COMPLINTS havo proved invaluable. Old Standing I.e ucorrlitca or Whites, attended with debility of exhaustion, and lor which other forms ol I medicine are ol little value, uic Itilly eon- j trolled and cured by lite Female Pills; while j die specific lor Irregularities control almost \ every form of Scanty, Fattdul or Irregular ' Menstruation. DIARRHOEAS & SUMMER COMPLINTS in adults or childieu nra controlled like mu gie by the Dianhcea Pills, whiie it may be averted without the possibility ol successful contradiction that me Dyseiitarv Pills are the most perfect specific lor thai disease known. For die various forms ol FEVERS, SCARLET FEVER, MEASLES, and other diseases ol children, the Fever Pills may be salely and surely relied upon. These Specifies ol Prof. Humphreys, used for years in his ex'ensive pruclice, and to the perleciion of which he lias devoted die re sources ol extensive knowledge, experience and study. The public may rest assured that during the lifetime of Dr. H., no one has been or shall be trusted with tho preparation of his Specifics, and he ofivis the guaranty of his professional life at.d reputations that they shall be just as he represents them. They have now been before the pub lie for five years, and have everywhere won golden opinions from the tnutiy thou sands who have used them. Simple, Iree from intricacy, technicality, or danger, they have become the ready re course und aid of the parent, traveler, nurse, or invalid, and have become the family j physician and medical adviser of thousands ol families. Nowhere have they be n tiled without having been approved, and their highest appreciation is among those who have known ihe in the longest, and must in timately. Every Family will find these Specifies all they have been recommended ; Prunit Re liable, Simple and Efficient ; a Friend *iu need und oilen a Friend indeed. LIST OF SPECIFIC REMEDIES. Bloomsburg, April 13, 1859. Scrofula, or King's Evil, is a constitutional disease, a corruption of the blood, by which this fluid becomes vitiated, weak, and poor. Being in the circulation, it pervades the whole body, and may burst out in disease on any part of it. No organ is free from its attacks, nor is there one which it may not destroy. The scrofulous taint is variously caused by mercurial disease, low living, dis ordered or unhealthy fooO, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the depressing vices, and, above all, by the venereal infection. What ever be its origin, it is hereditary in thfr con stitution, descending •• from parents to children unto the third and fourth generation j" indeed, it seems to be the rod of Him who says, " I will visit the iniquities of the fathers upon their children." Its effects commence by deposition from tho blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in the lungs, liver, and internal organs, is termed tubercles; in the glands, swellings; and on the surface, eruptions or sores. This foul cor ruption, which genders in the blood, depresses the energies of life, so that scrofulous constitu tions not only suffer from scrofulous com plaints, but they have far less jpower to with stand the attacks of other diseases; conse quently, vast numbers perish by disorders which, although not scrofulous in their nature, are still rendered fatal by this taint in the system. Most of the consumption which de cimates the human family has its origin directly in this scrofulous contamination; and many destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain, and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from or are aggravated by the same cause. One quarter of all our people are scrofulous j their persons are invaded by this lurking in fection, and their heulth is undermined by it. To cleanse it from Oi. system we must renovate tho blood by un alterative medicine, und in vigorate it by healthy food and exercise. 1 Such a medicine we supply in AYER'S Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla, the most effectual remedy which the medical skill of our times can devise for this every where prevailing mid fatal malady. It is com bined from the most active rcmedials that have been discovered for the expurgation of this foul disorder from the hlood, and the rescue of the system from its destructive consequences. Hence it should be employed for tho cure of not only scrofula, but also those other affec tions which arise from it, such as EHUITIVB and SKIN DISEASES, ST. ANTHONY'S FIRE, ROSE, or ERYSIPELAS, PIMPLES, PUSTULES, BLOTCHES, BLAINS and BOILS, TUMORS, TETTER and SALT RHECM, SCALD HEAD, RINGWORM, RHEUMATISM, SYPHILITIC and MERCURIAL DIS EASES, DROPSY, DYSPEPSIA, DEBILITY, und, indeed, ALL COMTLAINTS ARISING PROM VITIA TED OR IMPURE BLOOD. The popular belief in " impurity of the blood " is founded in truth, for scrofula is a degeneration of the blood. The particular purpose und virtue of this Sarsapa rilla is to purify and regenerate this vital fluid, without which sound health is impossible in contaminated constitutions. Ayer's Cathartic Pills, FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIC, are so composed that disease within the range of their action can rarely withstand or evade them Their penetrating properties search, and cleanse, and invigorate every portion of the human organ ism, correcting its diseased action, and restoring its healthy vitalities. As a consequence of theso properties, tho invalid who is bowed down with Eain' or physical debility is astonished to find his ealth or energy restored by a remedy at once so simple and inviting. Not only do they cure the every-day complaints of every body, but also many formidable and dangerous diseases. Tho agent below named is pleased to furnish gratis my American Almanac, containing certificates of their cures and directions for their use in the following complaints: Costive ficss, Heartburn, Headache arising from disordered Stomachy Nausea, Indigestion, Pain in and Morbid Inaction of the Bowels, Flatulency, Loss of Appe tite, Jaundice , and other kindred complaints, arising from a low of the body or obstruction of its functions. Ayer's Cherry Pectoral, FOtt THE RAPID CURE OF Coughs, Colds, Influenza, Hoarseness, Croup, Bronchitis, Incipient Consump tion, and for the relief of Consumptive Patients in ndvauccd stages of the disease* So wide is the field of its usefulness and so nu merous arc the cases of its cures, that almost every section of country abounds in persons pub licly known, who have been restored from alarming and even desperate diseases of the lungs by its use. When once tried, its superiority over every other medicine of its kind is too apparent to escape observation, and where its virtues are known, tne public no longer hesitate what antidote to employ for the distressing and dangerous affections of the pulmonary organs that are incident to our climate. While many inferior remedies thrust upon the community have failed and been discarded, this has gained friends by every trial, conferred benefits on the afllictcd they can never forget, nnd pro duced cures too numerous and too remarkable to be forgotten.
