PALKMON JOHN, JV'f. Bloomsburg, Pa., Sept. 19, 1857. IMPORTANT DISCOVERY. CONSUMPTION, AND ALL DISEASES OF THE LUNGS Ami TIIOATTute positively curable by in halation, which conveys the remedies to the cavities in the lungs through the air pas sages, and coining in direct contact with the disease, neutralizes the tubercular matter, ! allays the cough, causes a fteo and easy ex | pectO'Biion, heals the lungs, purifies the blood, i imparts renewed vitality to tho nervous sys tem, giving that lone and energy so imlis -1 peusnble tor the restoration of heulih. To be able to state confidently that Consumption is ! curable by inhalation, is to me a eourco of ! unalloyed pleasure. It is as much under the I control ol medical treatment as any ather formidable disease; ninoty out of every liutt ; dred cases cutt be cured in the first s'.ages, I and filly per cent, in lite second; hut in the I third stage it is impossible fo save ntore than ! five per cent., for the lungs aro so cut tip by the disease us to bid defiance to medical F.|( ill. Even, however, in tho last stages, in halation affords extraordinary rebel to the suffering attending this fearful scourge, which annually destroys ninety five thousand per -1 sons in tho United States alone; and a correct calculation shows that out of the present pop ulation of the earth, eighty millions are des lined to fill the consumptive's gruve. Truly the quiver of death bus no arrow so fatal as Consumption, lit ull ages it has been tho great enemy of life, for it spares neither ago nor sex. but sweeps oir alike the brave, the beautiful, the graceful, and the gifted.— By the help of that Supreme Being, from | whom cometh every good and perfoct gift, I iitn enabled to ofler to the afflcled a perma nent at;d speedy cure in Consumption. Tlye first cause ol tubercles is from impure blood, and the immediate elfecl, produced by their deposition in the lungs, is to ptevt't t the free admission of air into the air cells, 1 which causes a weakened vitality through | the entire system. Then surely it is more rational to expect greater good from rrodij ; cities entering iho cavities of the lungs than lr ui those administered through the stom ach; the patient will always find the lungs j tree and the breathing easy after inhaling remedies. Thus, inhalation is a local remedy, nevertheless it acts constitutionally, 1 and v illi more power and certainty than rem edies administered by the stomach. To prove j the powerful and ditect iulluencc of this j mode of administration, chloroform inhaled ' w ill entirely destroy sensibility in a lew miti- i u'es, paralyzing the entire nervous system, so ] dial a litnb may be amputated without the ; s'ightost pain ; inhaling the ordinary burning gas will destroy life in a few hours. The inhalation of ammonia will rouse the 1 system when tainting or apparently dead.— t The odor of many ot the medicines is per- 1 ceptible in the skin a few minutes after being inhaled, and may be immediately detected i in the blood. A convincing proof of the ' constiiuiional effects of inhalation, is the fact | that sickness is always produced by breath- ; nig foul air. Is noi this positive evidence 1 that proper remedies, carefully prepared and ; judiciously administered through the lungs, 1 should produce the most happy tcsults? Do ting eighteen years' practice, many thous , amis, sutferuig from diseases of the lungs and throat, have been under my eare, and 1 ■ have afflicted many remarkable cures, even alter ihe sufferers had been pronounced in the last stages, which fully satisfies me thai consumption is no longer a fatal disease.— My treatment of consumption is original, and founded on long experience and a thorough ' investigation. My perfect acquaintance with ihe nature of tubercles, Re , enables mc to distinguish readily the various forms ol dis ease that simulate consumption, and apply the propet remedies rarely being mistaken even in a single case. This familiarity in connection with certain pathological and mi croscopic discoveries, enables mc to relieve the binge from the effects of contracted chests; in enlarge die chest, purify the blood, impart to it renewed vitality, giving euergy uud loae j to ihe entire sysiem. ' Medicines wilh full directions sent to any part of the United States and Canada* by ! patients communicating their symptoms by i ietier. But the cure would be mora cfitain if the patient should pay me a visit, which would give me an opportunity to examine the long? and enable inn to prescribe with greater certainty, and then the cure could be etiected without my seeing the pattern again.
