We again ask our readers to' notice tho
contrast between the present and late Slate
government, in relation to this violation of
tho law In 1837, tho object of the public
officers seemed to be the defeat of the 'aws
but now its object is its enforcement. This
is exactly what tho peoplo require and will
support. While the laws exist they should
be maintained; and the best modo by which
public functionaries can inspire public con
fidence, is to maintain tho laws faithfully
and fearlessly. Tho evils of th
ia banking
system has become -intolerable
and he is
the best patriot who will strive
the most to
remove them by temperate remedies. A
great evil of the system is too ynuch paper
and too little coin. Let the p.iper bo re
strained and tho coin will multiply. A
now issue of " shin-plasters" wisuld banish
evory dime from circulation. Every good
citizen will aid tho law officers in enforc
ing the penal statues against small notes,
