Agriculture in this Country. It appears from a published statement, that there were at the Chincha Islands, 'on the first day of August. last, loading with guano for-the United States, forty-four vessels, with an aggregate of 31,328 tons. There had sailed from the Islands, prior to August Ist, and not yet arrived, twenty-six vessels, with 15,415 tons of guano on board. These vessels are all destined for the United States. A correspondent of the Charles ton Mercury speaking of the demand for Pe • ruvian guano for cotton. proposes that the United States government shall relieve Pe ru from its obligations to the British bond• holders, under which the monopoly is main mined, by advancing to that government $4,000,000 or $0,000,000 on the condition that the guano trade shall be thrown open to this country ; our importers paying the rates charged to the importers of other coun `tries.
