APPOINTMENT OF A CHAPLAIN.,--Pay. John C.
Gregg, late chaplain:of the Dauphin COnnty
regiment, (127th P. V.,) ilea been appointed
a chaplain to one of the hospitalS 'loeated'in
New Orleans. Rev. Gregg is an earnest and
an amiable gentleman, whose services. in the
position to which he has been assigned,'-can
riot fail to become highly favorable to` thesol
diers and the glorious cause in which they are
engaged.

Tim entertainments at Hitchcock's Na
tional Hall are said tvbe exceedingly attrac
tive, and are drawing:,large houses. Mr. H.
is using every effort to please the public, and
he is succeeding admirably. • Go to the new
hall, corner of Second and South streets, and
witness a tip-top performance. A number of

cars were totally wrecked and ruined. No
lives were lost, nor no' personal injury was
done the per:sons having the trains in charge,
we believe.

staff, registered his name at Herr's Hotel, and

signed him that evening, but on Wednesday
night his quarters were tenantless. The
brave captain (who sported a uniform suited

ailother: hoarder, a lieutenant, 'and:abstracted
from said officer's pockets eighiy-five dollars
in money. The lieutenant suspected Dunlap
of having committed the'rbbbery; but owing
to the rank of the latter, did not give publicity
:to his suspicions. _He-however., applied to

- caber, after carefully inquiringi•into the cir- . 1
cumstances connected with the case, conclo

ceeded in tracing him to Camp Curtin, where
he was found on Thursday in full uniform, at
the: headquarters of the camp. It was here
discovered that the "brave captain" had just
enlisted in a Pennsylvania cavalry regiment,

from the place to which he hadbeen credited..
Officer Frinklin arrested him, and (after re
questing the disburser of the bounty money
to retain the same until an investigation could
be bad) brought him to this city, where he
was handed over to the military authoritieS.
He was then reamed to Camp Curtin for a
further hearing. Qn Thursday night, how
ever, he succeeded' in escaping from the
camp, and is again at large. Although Dun
lap has not received the punishment due him,
the bounty money:has been saved for a more.
worthy volunteer, and a bounty-jumper, im
poster and swindler; has been foiled in one of,
his attempts to"-detiand the public. It is id'

this city, will preach his introductory sermon
in the Fourth Street Bethel, on to-morrow

this city, the Eldership could not have made
a better selection. •Under his , charge, the
congregation cannot fail to prosper.
Foa the benefit of those of our readers
who nury be interested in the arrangement, we
would inform them that the Cumberland Val
ley Railroad Company will commence, on
Monday morning nest, the 4th April, to run
cm additional passenger train between Car
lisle-and Harrisburg.
This train will leave Carlisle at five minutes
before 6 o'clock A.. 14., and arrive at Harris
burg in time to, connect with the trains leav
ing fox__Washington at 7,A. as. ; for Philadel
phia at 7:30 A. at., and .New at BA. au.
In returning, it will leave Harrisburg at 4:20
rit., owthe arrival of the train starting ;from
Philadelphia at noon, and reach Carlisle early
in thv afternoon.
TllEAME!—Benefit of Mr. Sant E.. Byan, the
Irish aontedian.,--To-night Miss Rate Denin,
the celebrated tragedienne, and Mr. Ryan, the
Irish Comedian, will appear for the last time
at .Brant's Hall. The occasion has been set
apart for the benefit of Mr. Ryan. The great
drama entitled the Brigand Queen, and the Irish
drama, Ireland as it Was, compose the bill of
the evening. All the members of the Star
Combination Company will appear'in both
pieces.. In the first named Miss Damn will
appear as Olympe, the Brigand Queen, and
Mr.' Ryan! its =Corny Brady. Mr. R. will, be
"Ragged Pat," an Irish Boy, in the closing
play. The great popularity of the performers
will warrant the management'a crowed house,
on this sixty-third evening here. Go. early,

At a stated meeting of the . I FriendshiP Fire
company, held in. their Hall on Monday even
ing, the following preamble and resolution

were unanimously adopted:
WHEREAS, Four years have elapsed since
the purchase from ''ate Arnaskeag Manufac
turing Coirsany of the Steam Fire Engine now
in possession and use of the Friendship Fire
coinpany; And whereas,-T he eitizena..of
risburg have had4ample oßportunity to see
tested the merits and the value of said fire en
gine; And whereas, Witfeel under many obli
gations to the citizens who have already con
tributed to the fund for the liquidation of the
debt incurred by the ,purchase of said appara
tus; of which debt there is still unpaid the
sum of $BOO. It has ,been the earnest pur
pose of the individual Members of the Friend
ship Fire company to, see that the balance
still remaining on the engine be at once paid,
and to secure this, hays since contributed of
their own private funds, as well as applying
moneys rgemved for other purposes; therefore,
Resulved. That the fitilasurer of the company,
Andrew Schlayer, and William C. M'Fadden,
be appointed a committee to collect the con
tributions already Made, and solicit such ,
other aid as the property holders of the city of,
Harrisharg may deem it their duty to con
tribute, for the paynient of the Friendship Fire
engine. •

Our Regiment—the 107th Pennsylvania Vol
unteers—expects 'fob be - home in a few days
No doubt our place Of ninatizvous will be
Camp Reynolds or Curtin. It is now a little
over , two years sincelwaleft Harrisburg for
Washington about nine' hundred strong. We
call return with something over two hundred, all
told. With few exceptions,: nearly all have re
enlisted as Veteran-Volunteers. Unfortunately
we are none of the pet Regiments; but what;
have those darlings perforined? Let the honest
soldier answer.• When you .lonk. upon the de
cimated ranks of the 107th, and ask the question,
