FOBS , Mo., April 13
Judge Murphy and D. Johnson, of Hunts
ville, Ark., arrived at General Curt& head
quarters last night, having been obliged to fly
from their homes since the battle of Pea Ridge,
by threats made against them by a band of
Texan ranger stationed at Watch.
Judge Murphy was the only member of the
Arkansas seceding convention, whose vote was
cast against secession of the State at Hunts
ville.
The Union men are depressed with gloom,

at Island No. 10, and were falling back along
the whole line, and that Jeff. Davis was about
to head four hundred thousand troops to invade
Maryland and the Northern States.
- These assertions were generally believed and
uo one had the hardihood to dispute these false
hood. The judge gives much information of
interest relative to Arkansas matters'.
Gov. Rector is bitter and wolfish. He called
an extra session of the Legislature but it was
three weeks before a quorum was present.
In his message he recommended that an act
be passed punishing with heavy fine any per
son who even expressed doubt of the success of
the confederate arms and that a second offence
be declared felony.
An act was passed imposing a tax of thirty
dollars per bale on cotton, thus favoring the
production of grain to the discouragemcat of
cotton raising.
Col. Wright, of the Sixty-eighth Missouri cav

Several skirmishes took place, which result
ed in the death of several prominent rebels.

FROM WASHINGTON
THE REPORT ON THE SURRENDER OF THE
NORFOLK NAVY YARD.
NO PASSES TO YORKTOWN
WASHINGTON, April 18
The Select Committee to inquire into the
surrender of the Norfolk Navy Yard made a
report to-day.
They censure the Buchanan Administration
severely for its neglect, and say that the pres
ent Administration cannot be held blameless
for suffering thirty-seven days to elapse, after
it came into power, before making amovement
for the defence of the yard.
The Committee censures Commodore Pauld
'rig, and Captains Pendergrass and McCauley,
and say, in conclusion that "the nation
should learn that pusillanimity in the defence
of our rights may be as injurious as the as
saults of our enemies."
The following order has been issued
WAD. Thresanotair,

Fs Ass Font Usios, March 10.
Since I wrote you, Colonel Slough's column,
thirteen hundred strong, has advanced to Ha
gan's rancho, twenty-five mites north of San
ta Fe, where they encountered the enemy ;
strength not known, and immediately engaged
them.
Major Crittenden, First Colorado volunteers,
and two companies of U. S. infantry under
Capt. Lewis, were sent to the rear to fall upon
them. Cola Slough, according to the pro
gramme, gave way gradually, which left the
supply train of the rebels unsupported, which
Maj. Crittenden and Capt. Lewis easily cap
tured, together with about fifty loaded wagons,
which were burned, and twenty prisoners and
one two pound howitzer, taken from us at Fort
Craig, which was spiked by our troops.
Colonel Slough's command then fell back to
a strong position. Oar trophies are one hun
dred prisoners, privates and officers, fifty loaded
wagons burned, one piece of artillery of the
enemy's,, spiked, from one hundred to two
hundred killed and wounded, including one
major, two captains, tect: Our loss is about
eighteen or twenty killed, including Lieutenant
Baker, of the Colorado yolunteers, and thirty
or forty wounded. Three or four officers were
also wounded.
It is supposed the rebel Gen. Sibly will ad
vance uporuCoh Slough's .command with his
entire force from two to five thousand strong,
and that _Col._Slongh will fall back upon the

The noble command engaged on our side
behaved with signal gallantry and coolness,
both volunteers and regulars.
P. S.—Ninety-five prisoners, with eleven
officers of the rebel army, have just passed
under escort, and will arrive at Fort Union
to-night or early in the morning. Colonel
Slough's entire command has fallen back to
Bengal Springs, forty-four miles from Fort
Union, and with supporting distance.
