If we take the Isabella as a standard of hardi ness, we may place above it as more hardy the Delaware, Anna, Concord, To Salon, Elsing burg, Diana and probably Cuyahoga. These may all be regarded as very hardy, and in the order in which they stand. ,As fully equal in hardiness, at least to tho Isabella, may be men tioned Allen's Hybrid, Lincoln, Lenior and Union Village, all of which excel in quality, though by vary different degrees of excellence. ===zi COL. MURRAY'S %MAINS IN HOLLIDAYSBURG.- Our correspondent who accompanied the escort of the remains of UoI. Wm, G. Murray from aria city to Hollidaysburg, yesterday morning, wrote to us as follows, under data of HOLLIDAYSBURG, March 28, 1862. The remains of Col. Wm. G. Murray arrived hum in a special car from Harrisburg at 4 o'clock this afternoon. The remains were accompanied by his mother and sisters, the joint Legislative committee, gill bearers, and a number of citizens of Har rieurg, including a representative from the Daily Evening TELRGRAPII. At every station slung tue road, crowds of people had assembled to get a glance of the coffin containing the re miss of the gallant deceased. At Ahem's, it seemed as if the entire popu lam of the town were at the depot. The flaea throughout the borough were at half mast, and trimmed with crape; the church bells, and that at the Penneyivauia railroad shops, were tolled runt the arrival to the departure of the train Whrn the train arrived about a mile west from here, it was stopped, and the coffin re lated to n hearse in waiting. A number, of nittlinge± were also on theground for the accom modation of the family and escort. After they were tilled, a procession was formed, which ['NNW by a brass band, proceeded towards this platy, and through the principal streets to the lesidesce of the father-in-law of the de ceased, John Dougherty, Esq., where the coffin Was deposited to await the funeral obsequies which take place at ten o'clock to-morrow. • OCR NRICIRBORS Aeneas xna WAY. —The First of April brings a stir, not only in business and financial affairs, but also produces changes in clumtstic and neighborhood relations. For three mouths m my houses throughout the city have been labelled, "For Rent." These labels have now been removed, and there is a com uotian in and about the house and curiosity m9agers across the way ate all agog. The old neighbors are preparing to "move o 0," and the new neighbors about to "move in," are r uling their appearance. Where are those Ping to, and who are these just arrived ? are the all absorbing questions. Moreover it is Important that these questions be correctly tattled ; and the movers, therefore, must not be annoyed at the numerous questions, looks, o haervations and nods of the people across the Ray If the out-goers were good neighbors it Is Pleasant to learn, they are not going far ; if they are bad neighbors it is gratifying to know they are entirely beyond reach. To know the Precise character, or rather the received reputa tion of the ineomers is of Mill more importance. good neighbors are not only an honor, but they are a comfortable blessing daily experienced.-- is effort, therefore, to learn the "position" of a new neighbor cannot properly be termed in gaiaitiveness ; but is rathe r a legitimat e search after desirable information. Furthermore, the witalows in the house "justopposite" were made to look out of, and it is entire ly proper that they should be thus used. And should it so happen, that handsome Puny ladies reside "just across," it is of course their especial privilege to ace out of, and still more to be seen at, the windows ; for since— "A thing of beauty is a joy forever," a beautiful lady at the window; with a scenery of drapery and flowers, will be an abiding joy 0 a whole n eighborhood. It is also a pleasing reflection for strangers to know that they are carefully noticed in their movements, and -that at often as they appear in front their persona is d ° BBl 3 , scanned and their fine clothes duly cand redited. For thus the world has it; tosee. to be seen is the ambition of all men. TER Riva:a —The river is in good Hitting stage, and the lumber and timber from ab.ve has been arriving all the week. Mr. Hickok is an active business man, and will Make an energetic officer. CfM=ll Ties CLIRKSHIP or TER MARKET will expire in a few days, thus making it incumbent on councils to fill the positions. So far as we are po4ticaliy concerned, of course we have no vOitn the selection;-but in obedience to our personal `feelings, we strongly desire the selec tion of Mr. Frederick Hoehnlen, the present, clerk of the market. He has proven himself a faithful and vigilent officer, and is in every respect the most popular clerk the markets have had for many years. Councils can do no better by any change, and we therefore hope that Mr. Haehnlen may be retained. =I SAN:OED'S OPERA. HOUSE.—Every one should visit Smford's to-night as it is the last appear ance in Harrisburg of Messrs. Dixey and Cern cross, two of the brightest stars in the mina tura profession. Mr. E. F. Dixey, the cham pion bone player and funniest comedian in the world, appears as "Handy Andy,'' a character he has made entirely his own. The style of performance given by Dixey is gentle, neat and original, and is , admired by all. Mr. J. L. Carncross is, without doubt, the best ballad singer that has ever appeared in Harrisburg, and our readers should avail themselves of this last chance of hearing him sing "No One to Love," the most beautiful ballad of the day Messrs. Carneross and Dixey are about to retire from Mr. Sanford's management, they having organized a company. of their own, in which some of the greatest performers in the world will appear. They intend playlig in Philadel phis for a short season, and will then probably pay Harrisburg a visit, and we know from the experience and ability of Camcross and Dixey, it will be mfirst class entertainment LOOOMOTIVES ON THE OserraeLltaturoAD.—The Pennsylvania railroad company now babe two hundred and twenty nine lovomotivea, of which one hundred and fifty-one are in , first class con dition, and forty-three are in running order. Of the whole number, twenty-three new en. gives were added during the year 1861. The total passenger engine znileage.doring the . year was 1,118,187 .miles; of freight, 8,148 , ,064 and distributing engines, 146,206, making the grand total 4,418,006 miles, or 779,694 miles more than was run in 1860. The average cost per mile run for repairs of engines and the coat of new engines added during the year, was $7 81. A saving of 76 cents per 100 miles run in luel has been effected, by adapting more of the engines to the use of coal. In 1868 the cost of fuel per run of 100 miles was $8 19, and in 1861 only $6 41. The company now own 8,192 eight-wheeled oars, and 678 four-wheeled cars. Tas Commerce MEN, who were recently ope rating in this city, and who stopped at the Buehler House and left without paying their bills, and whono doubt had something to do with the robbing of Mr. Williams at the railroad depot a week since, were arrested in Pittsburg on Wednesday last. They had been engaged in their tricks In that city, but succeeded in eluding the police, until a dispatch and des. caption of the rascals was sent to Pittsburg by Mayor Kepner, when they were at once traced to the Monongahela House and arrested. They gave the names of J. Reynolds and Henry Palmer. When arrested, they had one hun dred dollars in money of the aline description of funds as those lost by Mr. Williams at the depot in this city. They also bad tickets for numerous railroad lines, so that they could jump on the cars at any time, and go either east or west. They had no baggage at the ho tel, but had kept it at the depot ever since their arrival here. They are both genteely dressed, and pretend to belong to Louisville. The persons are detained In Pittsburg for trial. _._..,-. Tau NNW Brume built over the Schuylkill by the Pennsylvania railroad company, has been opened for traffic, and cars now pass over it daily. The iron superstructure of this bridge cousists of three spans of one hundred and ninety-two feet or one hundred avid eighty feet clear between supports. The middle span, which is supported by a cylindrical iron frame upon the centre pier, is turned by two `men with ease, the time occupied being about two minutes. East of the bridge there is another iron bridge of seventy-two feet span, which passes over Sutherland avenue, and the abut ments of the two bridges are connected by a series of stone arches, four in number, each of thirty feet span. A temporary trestle work, seventeen hundred feet in length, connects the west end of the Schuylkill bridge with the Westchester and Philadelphia railroad, in front of the Almshouse. From the latter point a track is laid to the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore railroad, at Washington street, a distance of four thousand two hundred and fifty-two feet. From Washington street to the main line of the Pennsylvania railroad, the distance is nine thousand three hundred and twenty-nine feet. They are now laying north of Market street four sidings, having an ag gregate length of four thousand and seventeen feet, and so located that they can readily be connected with the proposed junction railroad, which will probably occupy the ground upon which the Delaware extension line was located, between the Almshouse and the main eof the Pennsylvania railroad. ihilmnbutlT*ll . llVriftegrarretftuttrp. - Afternoon, Mord) 29, 1862.
