the Danes at Bistore, on the 3d inst.' This
town is` one mile south of Schleswig. The
Danish troops held their position in splendid
style. Subsequently an attack was to be-made
on the whole Danish line in front 'flank from
Nuisniideto Atzel. ThiS attadk was' to benniae
ea-day. . . ' •
It is asserted that Faigland, has , : offered :to
guarcuiteo all that Austria and Prussia have
demandectof Denmark.
The Alabama was on the watch for vessels,
50 miles' south of Ragoon on the fifth of Jan-

lowing telegram
SCHLESWIG, Feb. 3:—At 3 o'clock this P..nr.,
the Austrians attacked the ..Danish port of
.Bistore, one English mile : north of Schleswig.
The Danes held their ground. There was
sharp fighting in progress 'until long after
dark. The Ring of Denmark Walked out'and
inspected the outposts. No casnaltieS have
yet been reported.
The Danes have lost one field piece. The
firing continues., The battle will be resumed
to-morrow. The wounded are being brought
in.
LONDON, February 4, 1864.—The Queen's
speech, delivered on the opening of the Brit
ish Parliament, says the state of affairs on
.the
Continent of Eurppe has been the cause of
great anxiety to her majesty: The death 'of
the King of Denmark brought into immedi
ate application the stipulations of the treaty
of May, 1852, concluded by. his- Majesty the
Emperor of Austria, the Emperor of the
French, the King of Prussia, the Emperor of
Russia and the King of Sweden, and after
wards acceded to by the Xing of Hanover and
the King of Saxony, the King of Wirtumberg,
the King of the Netherlands, the. Queen of
Spain, the King of Portugal and the King of
It is rumored that Lord Derby and De•
Israeli will make a strong attack on Earl Rus
sell's Doliey; and also that the:Cabinet, with
the exception of Russell and Gladstone, are
prepared to support Denmark, An embargo
would be placed on the Getman shipping at
Copenhagen on the 3d.
It is asserted, that Napoleon *store resolved
than ever to take no active part in the Danish
question, but to leave the difficulty to Eng
land. That treaty declared that it is condu
cive to the 'balance of pOwer, and the peace of
Europe, that the integrity of the Danish mon
archy should be maintained, - and that the sev
eral territories which have hitherto been under

and Meims, reported back the gold bill refer

all the citizens, with their property; to move
to the east side of the Chattahoochietiver, on
pain of having,their,property confiscated.
It is reported that the..rebels are building

A special dispatch to the Commercial, from
Chattanooga, says:

lines with two officers and twenty-six privates
whose exchange he effected under a flag of
truce. •
General Sherman's troops have destroyed
the bridges on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad,
thereby severing the connection between
Polk's forces and Mobile.
The rebel papers report a battle at Enter
prise, Mina ~ w ith unknown results.
The rebels have no hope of repelling the
advande of Sherman.
Information has been received that John
ston, thinking we have weakened this point
by reinforcing the army at Knoxville, is pre
paring to attack Chattanooga.

Fire at East Newark, N. .1.

A fire broke out at East Newark early this
morning, completely destroying the.extensive
repair shops of the New Jersey railroad com
pany, together with several cars, a portion of
which were new.
