THESE BONDS are issued under the act of Con gress of March Btb, 1864, which provides that all bon s issued under this act shall be EXEMPT FROM TAXATION by or under any' State or municipal au thority, Subscriptions to these bonds are received,in United States notes or notes of National Banks. They are TO BE REDEEMED IN COIN, at the pleasure of the Government, at any period not.lees thanttnnor more than forty years from their date-, and until their redemption FIVE PER CENT. INTEREST WILL BE PAID IN COIN, on bonds of not over one hun dred dollars annually, and onfall other bonds semi annually. The interest is payable en the first days of March and September in each year. Subscribers will receive either registered or coupon bonds, as they may prefer. Registered bonds ore re corded on the hooks of the United States Treasurer, can be transferred only on the owner’s order.— Coupon bonds are payable to hearer, and are more convenient for commercial nses. -Subscribers to this loan will-have the option '6T ha ving their bonds draw interest from Mtrch Ist, by paying the accrued interest in coin—(or in U. States notes, or the notes of National Banks, adding fifty percent, for premium,) or receive them drawing inte rest from the date of subscription and deposit. As these bonds are Exempt from Municipal or State Taxation , their value is increased from one to three per cent, per annum, according to the rate of tax levies in va rious parts of tbc country. At the present rate of premium on gold they pay OVER EIGHT PER CENT INTEREST in currency, and are of equal’convenieace as a perma nent or temporary investment* It is believed that no securities offer so great in ducements to lenders as the various descriptions of IT. States bonds. In all other forms of indebtedness, the faith or ability of private parties, or stock companies, or separate communities only, is pledged for payment, while for the debts of the United Stales the whole property of the country is holden to secure the pay ment of both principal and interest in coin. These Bonds may be sdbi-cribed for in sums from $5O up to any magnitude, on the same terms, and are thus made equally available to the smallest lender and the largest capitalist. They can be converted iuto money at any moment, and the holder will have the benefit of the interest. It may be useful Co state in this Connection that the total Funded Debt of the Unlte4 States- on-.which in. tcrest is payable in gold, on the 3d day of March, 1864, was $763,965,006. ' The interest on this debt for the’ coming fiscal year will' be $45 937,126, while the customs revenue in gold for tbo current fiscal year, ending Juno 30tb, 1564, has been so far at the rate of over $100,000,000 per annum. - It will be seen that even the present gold revenues of the Government are largely in excess of the wants of the Treasury for the payment of gold interest, while the recent increase of the tariff will doubtless raise tbo annual receipts from customs on the same amount of importations, to $150,000,005. Instructions to National Banks acting as loan agents were not issued from the United States Trea sury until Marpb 26, but in the first three weeks of April the subscriptions averaged more than TEN MILLIONS A WEEK. will be received by all - . I take great pleasure in thus publicly proclaiming this fact, and calling the attention of those afflicted with the diseases for which they are recom mended, to these Bitters, knowing from experience that my recommendation will be sustained. Ido this more cheer fully as Hoofland’s Bitters is intended to benefit the afflicted* and is *• not a mm drink.” Yours truly, LEYI Q. BECK. From Hot. J. Newton Brown, J). D., Editor of the Encjtlo- .pediaof Religious Knowledge, Although not disposed to favor or recommend Patent hied* icines in general, thrc tigh distrust of their ingredients and effects, I yet know of no sufficient reasons why a man may not testify to the benefits ha believes himself to have tw* ceived from any simple preparation, in the hope that ha may thus contribute to the benefit of others. I do this the more readily in regard to Hooflacda German Bitters, prepared by Dr.C 51. Jackson, of this uty, because I was prejudiced against them for many years, under the impression that they were chiefly an alcoholic mixture. I am indebted to my friend Robert Shoemaker, for the removal of this prejudice by proper tests, and for encour agement to try them, when suffering from great and long continued debility. The use of three bottles of these Bit ters, at the beginning of the present year, was followed by evident relief, and restoration to a degree of bodllv and mental vigor which I had not felt fbr sii months before, and had almost despaired of regaining. I therefore thank Qo4 and my friend for directing me to the nse of them. 1 PaiUnapHiA, Juns 20,1861, J. NEWTON BROWN. From the Rev. Jos. H,Kennard, Pastor of the 10th Bap tist Church. Br.
