SCROFULA, OR HWC’S EVIL, I is a constitutional disease, a corruption of the blood, by which } this fluid becomes vitiated, weak and poor. Being m the cir-) dilation It pervades the whole body.jind may burst out in disease on any part of it. No organ is tree from its attacks, \ no t is there otic which it may cot destroy. The scrofulous • taint is variously caused hy mercurial disease, low living, dm- { ordeml or unhealthy food, impure air, fllth and filthy habits, | tbo depressing vices, and, above all. by tho venereal infection. "Whatever be Its origin, it is hereditary in the constitution, descending “from parents to children* unto the third and fourth generation;” indeed, it seems to be the rod of Him who say*’ will visit the Iniquities of the fathers upon their children.” Its effects commence by deposition from tho blood of cor rupt or ulcerous matter, which, in the lungs, liver, and in ternal organs, is termed tubercles; in cho glands, swellings; and on the Jurfaoe, eruptions or sores. This foul corruption which genders In the blood, depresses the energies of life, so that scrofulous constitutions not only suffer from scrofulous complaints, but tlmy have far less power to withstand the attacks of-otlier diseases; consequently, vase numbers perish by disorders which, although not scrofulous in their nature, are still rendered fatal by {his taint tu the system. - Moat of the consumption which decimates tho human family has its origin diroctly In thi« scrofulous contamination; and many destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain, and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from or are aggravated by the same cause. Cue quarter of all onr people are scrofulous; their persons are invaded by this lurking infection, and their health U un dermined hy it. To cleanse it from the system we must ren ovate tho blood by an alterative medicine, and invigorate it hy healthy food and exercise. Such a medicine we supply iu AVER’S Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla. the most effectual remedy which the medical skill of our times can devise for this everywhere prevailing and fatal ma]ady. It is combined from the mou active remedies that have been discovered for the expurgation of this foul disorder from the blood, and the rescue of the system from its de structive consequences. Hence it should be employed for the cure of not only scrofula, Ibut also those other affections which arise from it, such ns Eruptive aud Skin Diseases. St. Anthony’s Fire, Rose. or Erysipelas, Pimples. Pustules, Blotch**. Brains and Boils, Tumors, Tetter aud Salt Rheum. Scald Head, Ringworm. Rheumatism, Syphilitic and Mercu rial Diseases, DrOp-y. Dyspejiala, Debility, aud indeed all Complaints arising from vitiated or Impure Blood. The pop ular belief iu ‘iMeURiTT Of tub blood’’ is founded in tiuth, for Scrofula is degeneration of tho blood. Tbo particular purpose and virtue of this Sarsaparilla i* to purify and re generate this vital fluid, without which sound health is im possible in contaminated constitutions. AVER’S CATHARTIC FIVES. Influenza, Hoarseness, Croup, Bronchitis, Incipient Consumption, and for the relief of Consumptive Patients in ad vanced stages of (he disease. So wide id the field of nsefulnesr-and eo numerous are the cases of its cures, that almost every section of country abounds in persons publicly known, who have Won restored from alarming and desperate diseases of the lungs by its use. When once tried, its superiority over every other medicine of its kind is too apparent to escape observation, and where its virtues arc known, the public uo longer hcei tate what antidote to employ for the distressing and danger' ons affections of tbe pulmonary organs that are incident to our climate. While many inferior remedies thrust upon the community hare failed and been discarded this has gained friends by every trial, conferred benefits on the afflicted, they can never forget, and produced oure too numerous and too remarkable to W forgotten. GentUmeu: The Salamander Fire-Proof Safe of your manufacture, purchased by us from your Agent, Ferris & Garrett, of oiir city, some nine months ago, was severely tried by burglars last Saturday night, and although they bad a sledge hammer, cold chisels, drill, and gunpowder, they did not succeed in opening the Safe. The look being one of HalVs Patent Pow der-proof,” they could not get the powder into it, but drilled a hole in the lower pond and forced in a large charge, which was ignited, and although the door, in side and out, showed the explosion not to have been a small one, it was not forced open. We suppose they were the greater part of the night at work on it, We 'are much-gratified at the result of the attempt to enter it, antfdf the .above facta are of any service, you are at liberty to use them. Evans &, "Watson, Philadelphia: Gentlemen: It affords me great pleasure to say to you that the Salamander Safe, which I purchased of you in February, 1858, proved to be what you recom mended it—a sure protection from fire. My store house together with several others, was burned to the ground in March last. The Safe fell through into the cellar, and was exposed to intense heat for six or eight hours, and when it was taken from the ruins and opened, all Its contents were found to be in a perfect state, the books and papers not being injured in the least. I can cheerfully recommend your Safes to the community, believing as X do, that they arc as near fire-proof as it is possible for any Safe to be made.
