Doubtless new schools will yet have to be organized and the location *>f old ones changed. But were the School houses located us they should be, both Cor accomnioda imn and economy, a much less number would be much hotter. In the Item, “average number of months taught.” Same districts have reported the month* Uu?hl by private subscription also. If these were deducted from the public Schools, the general average would be less than five months public Schools. TEACHERS—It will be seen that we hive more than twice as many Females us Male teachers; and that their wages arc nol half as high. In every dig* inct we believe, bit two, Uie teacher “boards around,” and lienee the salaries arc pul down ul what it netts the teacher. Add the board, and the general wages of touchers in Ibis county, are for Males, $2B. and for Females $l7 per month. SCHOLARS.—Note the difference between the number of male and female scholars. Does this betoken alow estimate of female education in this Co? The great disparity in the co*lof educating each scholar per month in different districts is accounted fur by the diverse methods of muJung out district re ports- The general averageta nut far f'om the truth (or each district. Wc think the cost of school houses should come in tills item, as it is really a part of the current expense of educating each scholar. This included, the co*t of educating each .scholar perMnonlh will be GO cents. RECEIPTS.—Thc-above statement does nol show as wc think it outfit to, the per cent. levied by cu4h district Many of the districts we know lay tho tax at the highest limit 13 mills )>cr dollar. Most of the assrssnienU were laid before the present valuation of 1855 was made. The average tax was much higher therefore than when applied to ihu present valuation. $2,318,311, real and personal property. If we average the assessments of all the districts on this latest valuation, wc find it umonnts to utnuil 9} mills on the dollar. If the calculation was made upon the valuation, on which the tax was really laid, we think il would amount to 8 mills mi the datin'. If there is another conufy that has laid such a tax on their property for school purposes vre would like Co hear of it. Il any of our older counties, and especially any of them embracing cities or large low ns, have levied u lax of one half the above per cent il would do us good to know it. Respectfully Huhmittec J.
