Let's get nut aud roll up an old tirue majority for the party's can didates. Nhxt Tuesday will be election day Kverv Republican in Forest county should he at the polls and cast bis vote, and let the other fel lows got the lauuh on you. Rm'I'bmcans should take pride in vot ing for a man ol the calibre of George Holeman for Treasurer. He is in every way fitted for tbe position and would make an U.eal olllcer. Thabksoivino day has been ofucially declared by President Roosevelt, who finds much reason for National rejoicing and tbanksKiviiiK. Thursday, Novem ber 23tb is Hie day set. Git to the polls next Tuesday, Repub licans. Apathy never wou an election, and the only hope our friends, the enemv have of winning is that Republicans will stay at home and let the election go by default. Overconfidence kills. Tuerk never was and never will be anything hidden or underbauded In the character of George Holeman. He's just plaiu, every-day-alike George, aud that's why all who know him, like him. Give him your vote and support next Tues day, and assist in placing a worthy man In office. . Goon intentions and well wishes are tip top in their way, but votes count. You may he ever so anxious that your candi date shall win but if you fail to get to the polls and vote for him your good wishes will do him no good. The thing to do is to get yourself aud your good neighbor to theeloction. The financial flurry in New York, which threatened the country with a panic last week, to practically over with and the big liuaucial concerns are breath ing much easier. If the scare is suc cessful in causing a "slowing up" on the mad rush for gain that is prevalent in every sort of speculation, then it has not been !u vain. In the last several 'campaigns the Democrats have, had encouragements from many Republicans. They are with out this independent following this year, for that vote is all for Mr. KheatB, because he is known to be a clean man in every respect, one whom can be trusted just aa much as any other man In the State. Chambersburg Repository. In introducing Piesident Roosevelt to an audience at Vicksburg, Mississippi, the other day, Congressman John Sharp Williams said: "You cannot in the his tory of any country, ancient or modern, find a succession of twenty-five kings, emoerors. or even prime ministers, the equals in intelligence, culture, courage, or character of the twenty-live presidents of this great republic, from Washington to Roosevelt, inclusive. Of these, I, a Southern-born Democrat, have au Amer ican pride aud pleasure in saying that tbe last is by no meaus least." A votk for George W. Holeman is vote to place in office a man who has been a resident ol Forest county from birth. A worthy lellowman who has earned his bread by hard days' work and kept his standing and credit up to the highest standard, and who has performed his duly faithfully aud well in whatever station in life be has been placed; always honest and trustworthy, never deceitful in the least degree, but ready at all times to staud or full upon his record as a mau. It strikes us that is the sort of man the plain people delight to honor and elect to ollice, and that's what they intend to do next Tuesday. A cleaner, squarer candidate never asked for tbe support ef the Republican partv, of which he has been a loyal member from the day he became a man. Give him your cheerful, hearty support. In the training of children, the gravest problem that confronts the con scientiniiH parent it. tbe formation o habits l 1 1 utlif ul net h and tbe eradication of deception, the inherant trait which has been the dotenso of the weak against the strong since the infancy ol the human race, when the cave child hid its bit r marrow bone, licked its greasy fingers and told a lie. Admitting that yourchild will lie, the next thing to do is to find its motive; what kind of lies does he tell? There is always a motive, and the only way to build up a character of truthful ness is to find what this is and use it as working basis. Motives are many an include theshrinking from physical pain a fear of censure or redioule, the desire for praise, selfishness, and oftimes to avoid hurting the feelings or prospects of another. "Kaiuily Problems," in The Ladle.' World for November. It's the Same Everywhere. Tbe lol lowing paragraphs, tbe first from tbe Titusyllle Herald and tbe second from tbe Oil City Blizzard, size up the game situation about as it prevails throughout this section, where game usually abounds in good quantity: "Several Pittsburg hunters, who have been scouring this section for birds for several days, will leave for home to-day. They have not uiet with any better suc cess than local sportsmen. Sometimes a whole day's tramp is rewarded with a single bird; and sometimes it Isn't." The experience of these parties is that of all hunters who have been out in this section. There is practically no game, and hunting hereabouts Is simply a waste of lime and axle-grease. This is tbe verdict of all who have tried It. And the same conditions prevail over all of Western Pennsylvania, At Bradford the Mallory brothers, who are among the best shots In the state, after bunting three or four days without any sticces, gave it it up and determined to try it in tbe West, Some Oil City parties who spent three days in tbe vicinity of Pithole shot only three or four birds; three men who were out Friday failed to find a feather. Ruffed grouse are very scarce, about the only ones found being old birds, ine weather conditions last spring, at about nesting season, were so unfavorable that very few were hatched, aud the ones that got out of the shells were unable t" sur vive the cold rains. This is the principal reason for the scaroity, snd hunters would do well to refrain from further de pleting tbe stock. A few woodcock are found and some sport may be obtained seeking tbe pipers, along the runs. Oc casionally a squirrel is een, but not often. Rabbits are reasonably plenty and those who enjoy chasing ibem can have some fun as soon as the snow comes. To state the hunting is good is mislead ing." Neighborhood Jiotes. Along tbe lake shore the grape crop was not injured by the recent heavy frosts but back from the shore the damage was serious. About hall the crop has been harvested. The State Health Department has ad judged Warren's supply of water for drinking and domestic purposes pure and without contamination. All of which delights the average Warrenite. Five cases of diphtheria have tlevel oped at Russell, Warren county, and the disease has been pronounced epidemic by the State health officer, who is main taining a strict quarantine of tbe bouses. The case of U. R. McCalmont vs. Peter Berry, involving the ownership ol land in Cornplanter township, Venango county, which was to come up before Judire Wilson, of Clarion, last week at Franklin, has been settled. Three times governor of Alaska, John Green Brady, a former Cochranton, Crawford county boy, is returning to Sitka penniless as the result of tbe in vestment of his savings in the Alaskan railway schemes of H. D. Reynolds. It is reported the Case Cutlery Works will net be located in Warren. Mr. Case, it is said, could not come to satisfactory terms with the parties w lor stock. Tbe Warren men asked to be permitted to select the Treasurer of tbe company in order that they might know the disbursements. Judge Criswell, of Venango county, has declared unconstitutional the act re1 cently passed by the legislature provid- ng for the appointment of counsel to de fend moneyless persons accused of mur ders, tbe pay for such defense to be taken outof the county. The judge holds that the title of the act does not clearly set forth the subject matter of the law Horse thieves with, poor judgment visited tbe stables of John Morgan at, Parker Friday night. Morgan has sev eral blooded animals, but these were passed by for one whicli was on "easy street" after years of faithful service. They drove the beast eight miles into the country, turned it loose and left a note fastened to tbe harness bearing the word, stung." Carl W. Gustafson, aged 29 years, was found dead in the woods two miles from Kane, on Tuesday, He left his home on Tuesday, Octoper 8 telling bis wife be was going to Jamestown and tbat was the last she bad seen of him. When found he was laying face downward and was badly bruised about the face, one eye be ing severely injured. He bad evidently fallen from a log and had not moved alter falling. RECENT DEATHS. Mr. Weller was born in eastern Pennsylvania 69 years ago, and came to this section when but 14 years old with hiB parents, who located at Emlenlon. He was for a number of years a resident oftbis county, being employed at New town Mills, and Is well remembered by many of our older citizens. About twenty-five years ago he moved to Mercer county, and a year or more ago located in tbe borough of Mercer. He was a man of quiet disposition and fine character and a good citizen. Knlllnur Into Hole In Air. One of tho strange experiences of a balloonist is that of falling into " hole In the air." which Mr. Kolker reports as follows: "So you continue salllnsi, enjoying the present with little thought of the Htnrtllnjr surprises that may lie before you. Abend of you, uiisee'.i. may lie what the balloonist calls a 'hole In the air,' resembling the vortex of n maelstrom, and down this you may lit erally fall at u rate which is terrifying until by sacrificing two or three bag ful of sunt! at once your pilot checks your downward llight. Rut these 'holes' are scarce, and as a rule the atmos phere Is of uniform currying power." Amerlenn Magazine. Wlifii Units Wore Clinks. There was n time." said the nutl qv.arlan. 'Spit l,i"s tbev were called, and we cnll their descendants 'spitz' to this day, Suit ilons were trained to turn the spits on which roasted chickens, beef, ducks and turkeys. The little fellows did their work well. They were never known to l?t a fowl burn or to snatch ii mouthful or two from it.
