The people of Forest County wili have an opportunity iu tbe near future to bear and meat the Repulican State Candidates, who are headed this way in their speak ing tour. Hon. Edwin S. Stuart, candi date for Governor; Robert S. Murphy, for Lieut. Governor; Robert K. Young, for Auditor General; Henry M, Uouvk, for Secretary of Internal A Hairs, and a number of other distinguished citizens will be of the party. They will be in Tionesta in tLe afternoon of Friday, Sep tember 28, one week from noxt Friday. The itinerary of the party is given In a special correspondence on tbe fourth page of this paper, and Chairman Dr. Dunn has been notitled of their coming. Do not fail to be here and shake bands with tbe next Governor of Pennsylvania I Republicans should see to It that their taxes are paid. If that man Castle don't soon let up there is danger that Emery's fusion friends may pull him off the ticket. And then wbat would we do for fun in this campaign? It cannot be denied that Homer Castle is making good In showing up some of tbe fake reformers who wore not half so anxious to reform things as they were to seou re good seats In the Republican au tomobile. Blizzard. The bids on forty Mosul engines for use on the Panama Canal were opeued recently by tbe Canal Commission, The Baldwin - Locomotive Works of Phila delphia was the lowest bidder on tbe en gines, offering to doliver them at Colon for 1458,000. Wukn the President makes bis visit to Panama tbe last of October, he will have two battleships for his use, and also a tender. Secretary Bonaparte doesn't propose to take any chances of the Presi dent being laid up at sea on account ot a disabled englue. "We have more war ships than Presidents," said the secre tary, "so we feel it is probably wiser to send two." Candioatb Emery says only state is sues are at stake in tbe present campaign. If this be true how do Republicans kwho have cast their lot with the fnsionists like the following by Congressman Sherman, . who delivered a speech at tbe Academy in Philadelphia Wednesday niebt: "I am here to urge tbe Republicans of Pennsylvania to stand by tbe candidates who represent the regular Republican party. We of New York, we of Maine, we of Oregon, we of the entire union, are looking to you here in Pennsylvania to roll up an old-fashioned majority for the regular Republican ticket." Our candidate for Congress, Hon. N. P. Wheeler, 4ald a friendly visit to Mer cer county people last week, where be met with a most cordial welcome at the hands of the people irrespective of party affiliations. He atleudod the fair at Mercer one day and bis reception seemed like a continuous ovation. The town was Ailed with residents from all over the county and from every section Mr. Wheeler received tbe warmest assurances of Bupport, the people being delighted with bis personality and business-like ways. Ol his visit to Sharon the daily Telegraph of that wouderfully busy city has this to say : y Nelson P, Wheeler, Republican candidate for Congress in this district, of Endeavor, Pa., accompa nied by his private secretary, Gus B. Evans, visited his friends in Sharon to day, and was about among the voters. Mr, Wheeler will be an easy victor in this district, as the opposition against hi in is very weak. Yestorday ho visited Mercer fair and saw a great many people and was well pleased with his reception. He was a caller on James P. Wbitla, who enabled him lo make the nomination at Franklin last spring and the two had a pleasant visit. Mr. Wheelor and Mr. Evans also paid a visit to the office of tbe Daily Telegraph. The Republican can didate is a pleasant and affable man, and has no trouble whatever In making and retaining friends, a qualilication which assists him very much during his cam paign. He will make other visits to Sharon as tbe campaign progresses." More Hot Shot for Emery. Undoubtedly tbe people who nominat ed Emery for Governor would give al most anything It they had him off the ticket again, for they see be is losing ground every day. Until Emery showed his unfitness for the great office to which be aspires, in writing his fearfully dam aging letter attempting to answer Dr. Swallow's cbarires, things were running quite smoothly for his fusion propaganda, but that letter fell llko a pall over the whole state and bis supporters began to desert bim by the thousands from that moment. Homer L. Castle, Prohibition candidate for Governor, is pouring the hot shot into the fusion aspirant with fearfully telling effect. Iu a recent speech be utteied those scathing words: "X must insist that Mr. Emery is not fit to be the Governor of this State, be cause his mental ideals are low and tre mendously warped. He sits down and in cold blood writes a letter to a man in which he puts the church and the school house and the hospital on a parity with a brewery. Just think of it! "The church, which aside from the home, is the only institution which has divine sanction and ordination Tbe church, which has stood for these ages as the sign present of God with man. The church, into whose life has been poured the thoughts of the best men and women that have ever lived. The church, fir whose life so many men have laid down theirs and willingly surrendered all they had and were, that it might have life. The church, whose spires point the mari ner on life's sea the way to the better. The church, into whose portals you and I went as hoys, and where first tbe min ister of God laid his hands in blessing ou our heads. The church, where our names were enrolled and where every Sabbath we meet and catch a fresh breath from the atmosphere of higher life. Tbe church, to whose altar you and I led tbe woman who became part and parcel of our livos, and heard the minister say, 'Whom God hath joined together let no man put asunder.' The church, through whose door we carried for the last tune the body of a sainted mother. The church, that comes to the bedside as all things terrestrial seem to recede from us, and touching our fading eyesight, makes us to see the glories beyond. This church is no bettor, in the ideas of Lewis Emery, than a brewery. I am not ob jecting to Mr. Emery's ideals. "So mo have said that he is honest when he makes these statements. Let that stand for tbe fact, and bis very honesty makes him the more ineligible as the Governor of a Christian Commonwealth. The objection that I urge to him is not that he believes that the church and the brewery are upon a level, but that the man who does believe that ought not to be foremost in a Christian Common wealth. We have in this State approxi mately 5,000 ministers ot that church; we have at least 5,000,000 attendants upon the publio services of that church, and to put it in the parlance of the street, I say it is up to that church to demonstrate by declining to support Mr. Emery, that it does not bel'eve that it is a fact that they are no better than the brewery," Amoks the nominations of candidates for tbe General Assembly In neighboring counties we note with pleasure that of Dr. J. M. Martin, of Grove City, Mercer county, by the Republicans. Three ses sions in succession Dr. Martin has repre sented bis county at Harrisburg, from 1895 to '09, and we venture to say his votes on all legislation were nearer right than those of ninety per cent, of the House membership, and he didn't vote "aye" on all the bills either. "Independ ent io all things, but neutial in nothing," has beeu the doctor's course in his politi cal as well as bis business career. Al ways a staunch Republican when the principles of that party were involved, be nevertheless knew no buss nor allowed any one to dictate bis course on any measure that came up for disposal. That his people will again return him to the legislature there is no doubt, and that his course and vote will be in the right direo tion goes without saying. The writer knows whereof he speaks, having a per sonal acquaintance with bis Bubject, and an opportunity to note the doctor's legis lative record. Mr. E.mkrv is daily demonstrating from the stump bis uttor unfitness for gubernatorial honors. His intemperate. speeches will constitute the strongest ar gument against bis candidacy on election day. We do not hesitate to predict that no such demagogue as the fusion candi date is proving himself lo be, will ever he elevated to the governor's chair in Pennsylvania. Tilusvllle Herald.
