Opinions of the Press on the Nomina tion of Mr. Wheeler for Congress. We give bolow excerpts from the com ments or the press, both In and out of the district, on the nomination of Hon. N. P. Wheeler, of Endeavor, as the Republican candidate for Congress in the 28th Dis trict His nomination has proved to be a very popular and acceptable one to all classes of people and he is constantly in receipt of congratulations and cordial of fers of support from all oyer the district: Though Mercer county was first to join 'with Forest in making the nomination, the conferees and candidates from the other two counties Warren and Veuan go lost no time in getting in out of the wet, aud all seemed heartily glad that when they couldn't have the honor them selves they feel that it is going to a man well worthy of the honor aud competent to fill the high office. Ridgway Advocate. Hon. N. P. Wheeler of Endeavor has been nominated by the Republicans of the Twenty-eighth district for the seat made vacant by the expiration of Hon. J. C. Sibley's term. Mr. Wheeler is a representative citizen and a successful businessman. He is the first candidate ever presented for congress from Forest county. The Herald congratulates the county and Mr. Wheeler. His election is assured. Titusvlile Herald, 14th. In Mr. Wheeler the conference has given to the Republican party the strong est and best man that could baye been selected. He is one of Forest county's subKtantial business men and the many messages of congratulation which he re ceived from every county in the district, while in Franklin, is convincing that the people are satisfied. One of the bsppy coincidents was that last Tuesday, June 12, was the twenty-ninth anniversary of bis wedding day. Marienville Express. Nelson P. Wheeler of Endeavor, Forest county, has heeu nominated by the district conference as the Republican candidate for Congress in the 28th district com posed of Venango, Warren, Forost, Mercer and Elk counties. Weexlend congratulations to Mr. Wheeler and to Forest county. We trust that Forest county may have the opportunity to congratulate Clarion county on the selection of F. J. MafTett of Clarion as the candidate In this congress ional district. Clarion Republican. While the Hon. N. P. Wheeler, the Re publican candidate for congress in the twenty-eighth district, was regarded as a dark borne, and his nomination came as a great surprise, nobody acquainted with the man or Laving a knowledgo of condi tions in the district, has the slightest doubt of his triumphant election. The Democrats will experience difficulty in finding a man who can make even a re spectable showing against the popular Forost county lumberman. Titusville Herald, lOtli. It was generally conceded by all the conferees that a stronger man than Mr. Wheoler could not have been nominated. He represents all that is required of a representative in Congress. He is free from all factions, ia a good business man, honest and conscientious to the last de gree, aud a man against whom nothing can be aaid. He is invulnerable to at tack on any point and, witli the united support of all good Republicans, should carry the district by a large majority. Franklin News. On the fifth ballot tlie Forest coun ty conferees voted lor Mr. Whitla, Mercer county's candidate, aud by his direction, though be was assured it would mean his defeat, the Mercer couuly conferees re turned the compliment. Two of the men from Klk followed suit, and Mr. Wheoler Vas declared the winner. Mercer coun ty Republicans will bs disappointed that Mr. Whitla did not win, but they may be satlslied that the plum goes to Mr. Wheeler. His nomination means an election and he will doubtless take good care of the interests of his Mercer county constituents. Mercer Dispatch. While theie is some disappointment in "Warren county over the result, as it was hoped that the honor would come to this county through its candidate, lion. H. II. Cumings, all classes of Republicans unite In saying that Mr. Wheeler will make an ideal candidate, and is a credit to the Re publican party.. The Mail is willing to accept the decision of the conference, and will give Mr. Wheeler the same hearty support that it would have accorded Mr. Cumings had be been the successful can didate, and we predict that Mr. Wheeler will make a strong and winning fight lu this county and district. Warren Mail. Mr. Wheeler owea his nomination not ouly to bis clean reputation and high standing as au honorable business man but also to the enthUNiHstio manner lu which he was supported by friends in Forest county. Their confidence and en thusiasm in the candidate seemed to be contagions snd it sot the other conferees to thinking that a mail who stood so high and was so admired at homo must be worthy of the honor they bad to bestow. The office was seeking such a man, and having found him, the conferees lost little time in crowning lilm with the honor of being tho standard bearer of the Republi can party in the district. Ridgway Ad vocate. Hon. N. P. Wheeler made the nomina tion for Cougress from this district Tues day at Frauklin on the sixth ballot. It goes without the saying that we are dis appointed in that our borne caudidate, Hon. H. II. Cumings, did hot wiu out for the nomination. Rut if he was not to win we certainly are pleased and gratified that Mr. Wheeler was successful. No doubt the other candidates would have repriseuted the district with honor, but we, right here at home, thoroughly know both Mr. Wheeler and Capt. Cumings, Both have been identified .with Tidioute, and both have many friends here. Aud as we before remarked if it wasn't to be our purely home candidate, Mr. Wheelt r stands next, and we aie peculiarly grati fied in bis selection. Tidioute News. In appearance Nelson P. Wheeler is a tuau ofo5 years of age, ho wears a full short beard aud might be taken for lawyer, doctor or business man. He has an Intelligent face, a pleasing address and looks like a man one can tie to, and talk to without feeliug at all embarrassed. He is a wealthy lumberman, and resides at a small town called Endeavor, which town be just about owns. He was born at Portvillo in the stale of New York, but for thirty years has resided at Endeavor, where he has a big mill and a large num ber of employes who speak in the highest terms of his generosity and kindly "eel ings for his workmen. He is married and has a family and has had some exper ience in legislation, having been a mem ber of the legislature of this state several years ago. Sharon Telegraph. The nomination nf Hon. Nelson P. Wheeler, of Forest county, for Represen tative In Congress from this district upon the sixth ballot at the first meeting of the delegates, was a complimeut most wor thily bestowed. Mauy had been led to expect a protracted aud loug drawu-out session, owing to the strength and prom inence of the men who bad Iweu an nounced as candidates. Each of the five counties bad a favorite son, and all were able and representative men. These facts render the selection of Mr. Wheeler all the more notable, and demonstrate that be must be of the light sort to displace the strong timber that confronted him. Mr. Wheeler has always been a staunch Republican, and taken a deep interest in the politics of his county and state. He has built up the model town of Endeavor in Forest couuty, where he has made bis borne for many years. He has traveled extensively and hie business interests have taken him to all parts of the coun try. While one of the largest manufac turers of lumber in the state, be is also interested in oil and familiar with every phase of the oil industry. Mr. Wheeler is a man of great ability and strength of character. He has served in the State Legislature as Representative from For est county, and held many official posi tions of trust and honor In bla town aud county. He is in full accord with the platform and principles of the Republi can party and, as a tnau of practical af fairs, is bound to become a conspicuous figure In tbe next House of Congress. Oil City Derrick. Tub only thing thus far urged against N. P. Wheeler, tbe Republican nominee for Congress in this district, is that bia home, at Endeavor, is called "Bonnie brae." That this ia rather aesthetic and Scottish, for Forest couuty, must be ad mitted. But It should be borne In mind that there are a good many things in that county which are strictly up to date, in cluding ceitaiu politicians, who reside at Tionesta. See Alex McDowell on "How I Nominated a Candidate." Oil City Blizzard. Wk are about to enter upon a more or less Interesting and exciting campaign In the Btato of Pennsylvania. In reference to this fact the South Bethlehem Globe philosophically declares that "in days of political strife it is well to remember that after all we are just a band of brothers hereon earth, traveling from tbe cradle to the grave. We live aide by side, we attend churches together, most of ns, our children attend the same school, and after the smoke of the battle has cleared away we will still be friends and neigh bors." And then the Globe advises that "the bitter tilings go unsaid." Splendid advice; would that we might all live up to It. How's This?
