We, the Republicans of Forest county, in Convention awembU'iI, re-atlirm our adher ence to the principle of the Republican party, and hail with delight the prosperity enjoyed by all our people. 2. We heartily endorse the administra tion of President Roosevelt, and recognize in him an able and fearless exponent of the principles and policies of the Republican party, and heartily nupport him in his ef forts to control the large trusts and combi nations in illegally .seeking to control the markets and destroy competition. II. We rejoice to know that through the untiring efforts of President Roosevelt and his advisers, the railroad rate legislation is being brought to a successful termination, thereby preventing one of the greatest evils and unjust practices extant in our land at the present time in the matter of re bates, etc. 4. We heartily endorse the administra tion of Governor Pennypacker, and com mend his action in calling an extra session of the legislature, thereby giving to the people of the State many needed reforms, including uniform primary elections, etc. And we hereby commend the action of Hon. John H. Robertson, our member of the Legislature, for his earnest and faithful support of all such measures. 5. We recognize in the Hon. Joseph C. Sibley, our member of Congress, a fuithful and efficient member and one who has looked well to the interests of his constit uents in every way. ti. Resolved, That the Republicans of Forest County most cordially endorse the candidacy of the Hon. Charles W. .Stone, of Warren County, for Governor, believing him to he well equipped in every way for the position, and whose nomination will insure success to the party at the Novem ber election. 7. We cordially commend Forest Coun ty's candidate for Congress, the Hon: N. P. Wheeler, to the consideration of the Con vention of the 2s,th Congressional District as a man eminently qualilied in every way for the position, and whose nomination will insure success to the party in Novem ber next. 8. We commend our candidate for As sembly. T. D. Collins, to the voters of Forest County as one who is thoroughly conversant with tli needs of the comity, unil one who will look well" to ull of her interests. SI. Our candidate for District Attorney, A. C. Brown, Esq., is a lawyer of tact and ability, and will faithfully and honestly conduct the affairs of that important ollice, and we cheerfully commend him to the Voters of Forest county. 10. We are unqtiuliticdly in favor of the passage of a law by the Legislutuie fixing a two-cent flat rate for travel on all rail roads within the Ktate, and also a law per mitting trolley railroads to carry freight. Bktweew fifty and sixty amendments have been offered to the rate bill and the longer they are discussed the better the unamended bill looks. Ciiininirs Carries Warren County. In the contest for the Congressional nomination in Warren county last Satur day, Capt. H. H. Cumings, of Tldloute, who wl'bdrw from Forest county when Mr. Wheeler announced, won out over his opponent, Hon. O. C. Allien. Tbe tight was hot one, every inch of (he ground being contested, and Mr. Cum ings' majority is about 00. The contest will now be shifted to the district con ference, the tim and place for which bis not yet been agreed upon, and Fores; county hopes tu land her candidate, Hon. N. P. Wheeler, when that time comes. There Is no uso getting alarmed be cause a vessol with one thousand immi grants from Italy Is overdue. It will get here. Youno Mr. HoLmcu who seems to have a sure thing nn a seat in Congress will be likely to fiud that all heroes look alike to Uncle Joe Cnunon. His grateful countrymen anyway, Can lay their hands on their hearts and say, They have laid to rest the probable bones, Ot the late lamented John Paul Jones. "Now Is the time for Bryan to speak," says Col. Watterson. By all means. Let him tire away at the heathen In Asia, and keep It up as long as the heathen will stand it. The hero of the Merrlinae, Lieutenant Pearson Hobaon, has at last succeeded In securing the seat heretofore occupied by Representative Bankbead in Congress. Mr. Ban knead has beeu a member of tbe House continuously sinco 1885, and lien bis present term has expired will have had 22 years of it, so be really baa no par ticular grievance at his constituents. Mr, Hobsnn bad perhaps better remained hero, for he will find that stopping tbe mouth of a harbor with a sunken ship and subsequently engaging in (he whole sale osculation business Is a bed of rosea compared witb the task of inducing the Committee on Rules tn believe be is a statesman, or that be baa any measures worth a place on tbe calendar. Punxy Spirit. Governor Pennypacker has issued a proclamation in which he urges the citi zens of Pennsylvania to keep the peace and abstaiu from any acts of violence. In bis comments on the present difficulty between the miners and the operators, tbe Governor says: "Tbe laboring man, out of whose efforts wealth arises, has tbe sympathy of all disinterested people in bis lawful struggles to secure a larger proportion of the profit which results from bis labor. Wbat be earns belongs tobiiu, and if be invests his earnings tbe law protects nis property, just as the rights of property of all men must be protected. He but no right to Interfere with another man who may want to labor. Violence has oo plae among us and will not be tolerated. Let all men in quiet and soberness keep the peace and attend to their affairs with the knowledge that it is tbe purpose of tbe Commonwealth to see that tbe principles herein outlined are enforced."
