We are authorized to announce Otto Rudolph, of Hickory township, as a candidate for Delegate to tbe Republican Klule Convention. Has Forest County Any Bights I Witblu tbe past week Forest county has been flooded with circular letters from Mr. O. C. Allen, of Warren county, bearing on his Congressional candidacy in this county, and which cast some un called for reflections upon tbe home can didate, Hon. N. P. Wheeler. The letter starts out by stating that Mr. Cumings, (who withdrew from tbis county when he learned that the county would present a borne candidate,) bad been largely in strumental in inducing Mr. Wheeler to run. This is a positive aflront to Mr. Wheeler, as well as a reflection upon every .Republican voter In Forest county. It is a surprising assertion coming from so astute a politician as Mr. Allen, and is surely very ill advised. Mr. Wheeler's acquaintance extends into every portion of Forest county, and bis splendid char acter as a man Is well known to and acknowledged by ninety-nine out of ev ery hundred voters. To say that, oecause he dared to present his name as a candi date for Congress in his own county, he is the creature of any man or faction is, to say the leant of it, little short of an in sult to him and the people of bis home county. Mr. Allen further sayK "Although not a citizen of vour county, I came into it after Mr. Cumings had announced, and, as be states in his with drawal announcement, supposing that no local candidate would be put np in your county for ibe position of Congress." The truth of the matter Is that Mr. Al len's announcement came before Mr. .Cumings', and Mr. Allen doesn't appear to have consulted any considerable num ber of tbe people ot Forest county as to whether they would have a home candi date, but placed bis announcement very early in the game, long before any date even bad been fixed for holding the pri mary election. Mr. Allen would bave tbe voters be lieve that be bad no notice of Mr. Wheeler's intentiou to be a candidate, when the fac's are that be was as fully and promptly Informed as was Mr. Cumings, and after consultation with bis advisors, positively refused to withdraw from Forest county. What "party man agers" advised this course on bis part? And who are the "party managers" that advised Mr. Allen that Forest county would bave no home candidate? Mr. Allen's assumption that Forest county has no right to have a home can didate is very ungrateful to say the least, and is not shared by any considerable number of its people. He is tbe only man of all the other four counties com prising the district to contest Forest county's right to present a home candi date. Has Forest county any rights at all lu this district? We think she has. The response to California's appeal has been prompt, universal and substantial. Relief has been and is still going forward by ship loads, by train loads and by wagon loads. A dime from each of the inhabitants of the United States would produce 8,000,000, and there are fow who cau not afford more. To give a mite is Infinitely better than to oiler nothing. At about the same hour as the earth quake in Sau Francisco, a lake near Seattle was agitated so violently that houseboats, floats and boatbouses were tossed alKut and jammed, and some were broken from their moorings. During tbe disturbance, lasting six minutes, three distinct tidal waves passed across the lake and mounted high on the shore. The earthquake was felt over a wider area than first reported. Rkicblicans should not overlook the fact that tbe Republican primary election is to be held in Forest county next Sat urday. Take time to attend the primaries and cast your vote for the candidate of your choice. It is not alone your privi lege but your duty as a good Republican as well. With a good vote out the result is apt to be much more satisfactory all round. Turn out and express your choice by your ballot next Saturday afternoon. The Congressional Question. To the Republican Votcrt of Forest County Circular letters are being sent through out the county by one of the Warren county candidates for Congress, O. C. Allen, Esq., In the Interest of his candi dacy in this county, insinuating amongst other things that tbe Hon. N. P. Wheeler is a candidate in tbe interest of some other candidate, which statement is en tlrely at variance with the facta. Mr. Allen seems to think that Forest county should not bave a candidate for Congress whilst he is a candidate, but should be subservient to the wishes of Warren county. Now Forest county entertains nothing but tbe friendliest feelings for tbe Warren county candidate and Warren county, but will not concede the right to them to dictate to Forest In this matter, Tbe author of the letter is tbe only can didate in the district who persists In com' Ing into Forest and making a fight against our home candidate, which we think is unfair. We think tbat a very large ma Jorityofour Republicans will so decide ontbeSth day of May. The letter also finds fault with the late announcement of Forest's candidate which was made within our rules, whilst tbe author of the letter jumps right into the fight In Forest without ever consulting our people about tbe probabilities of having a candidate, assuming, no doubt, that as be was a candidate, Forest should take a back seat. Now we say to the voters of Forest coun ty tbat we esteem it to be their duty to resent at tbe polls the unjust and unkind statement tbat our own candidate is only running In the interest of some other person. Mr. Wheeler's standing as a business man and citizen Is a complete answer to these charges. The Republi cans of Forrst will present tbe name of X. P. Wheeler to the District Convention wi'.b full faith in bis ability and honesty of purpose to intelligently represent the 28th District in tbe halls of Congress, should be be tbe choice of tbe people. We trust tbat every Republican that takes a pride in tbe welfare and future succtss of Forest county will by bis vole on the Stb day of May put the seal of condemna tion on these efforts to traduce and mis represent the motives of Forest's own candidate for Congress, the Hon. N. P. Wheeler. A Republican Voter. A large portion on San Francisco is built on made ground, and numerous business blocks stand on land formerly covered by the waters of tbe bay. Much of the remainder of tbe city was built upon sand. Tbewoik of reconstruction requires a careful study of the founda tions of the city. Under tbe sge limit pension bill, re cently passed by both bouses of Con gress, a soldier of tbe Civil war, who has reached the age of 60 is allowed f6 per month without examination as to disa bility, at 61 be gets fS and at 70 Is allowed f 12. This measure, doing away with all questions of disabilities, gives every Civil war veteran a pension regardless of dis ease incuried either during the war or succeeding it. The noble band of reformers iu Phila delphia seem to be having some trouble among themselves. The Press declares tbat everything is all right; tbat tbore are times when the most strenuous reformer must dally a bit with tbe corrupt agents of the machine. The North American asset is tbat some time ago it informed the mayor it was going to quit bothering about the councilmanio matters, since which time his honor has not consulted it. Some things, it believes are not they should he, but tbis Is not tbe time to inaugurate a municipal fight. Tbe Ledeer is fiercely and aggressively against a ring wnicn teems to have originated among tne relormers. Kane Republican And so it goes in the cajip of the aver age "reformers," some of whom are out of Jail because they haven't yet been de tected. REPUBLICAN PRIMARY ELECTION.
