Tub news that Nikola Tesla says he can throw the world out of its orbit will sound commonplace to the people who are sure that the times are already out of joint. Elihu Root has sounded several key notes for the Republican party in recent years, and Mr. Roosevelt can not be charged with the sin of ingratitude in politics. Tub sharks are swinuuiug around in sight of the President's summer home at Oyster Bay, but be is driving them out of nearly every department of the gov ernment. Tiib landing of over one million immi grants in this country during the fiscal year ending with June should bring con gress to enact new measures of restriction at the coming session, says the Kane Re publican. The annual injection of hordes from eastern and southern Europe, equal to one eightieth of our total population, Is a menace to our civilization which de mands serious consideration. These people, who in the main gather in popu lous communities, carry with them ract) characteristics which are radically at variance with American aspirations. Such Btrong infusion of people of a lower hu man grade than our ow n must lower the general standard of the population of this country. Their influx places the burden of providing for the proper rearing of their descendants upon the wealth of the country, and the future absorption of the children of the average immigrant of this period inlo the American race presents the prospects of less promising amalga mation than the earlier combination of Teutonic and Celtic peoples. It is quite time that congress cease to favor the great steamship companies and eiiHct the edu cational lest for adtuixsion to our ports which w mid save the American people from the vast annual inllux of ignorance aud degradation. Tlouesta won the Thursday game by a score ol 2 to 1 and iu the double-header Friday af ternoon won the first game 5 to 3 but lost the second 8 to 7. The Bruin team was the fastest that has appeared here this season and the borne team was playing a flue game to get two out of threo from th m. All three games were marked by good pitching, batting and brilliant field ing and by a glance at the scores it will be seen that each was exciting am) close to the end. The Bruin boys were a clean, gentlemanly crowd and conducted them selves as uch both on and on the field, and we will be glad to see thorn here again. In the last game Lamberton, shortstop, and Dower, middle fielder, of the Bruin teaui, collided while going after a lly and the latter bad his right cheek badly cut.
