There are some queer anomalies in this world of ours, Mr. Carnegie opposes a big navy and Mr. Carnegie's company wants to turnish all the armor plate for it. It must be an awful shock to Castro's dignity and conceit to notice that Presi dent Roosevelt has marked his case "For considoration after 1 return from my hunting trip." Those men who have been offered Sec retary Hay's cabinet position would probably feel more elated if the offers had come from the President instead of from the uewspupur correspondent-!. The New York Democrats are quarrel ing over the selection of a state leader. Some recent political events would indi cate that the party in New York needs "followers" more than It does "leaders." The friends of John B. Head, of West moreland county, are going to bring him forward for the Democrajh nomination for Superior Court Judge, which Is a very appropriate thing to do. Nothing la more In need of a "head" than the Dem ocratic party. Tom. L. Johnson is working hard on his Invention of a toboggan scheme by which be hopes to have travelers slide from Chicago to New York in a couple of hours. The man who runs for office on the Democratic ticket In Ohio naturally acquires respect for the possibilities of the toboggan. The Ilarrisburg Telegraph believes that the legislature la too much occupied with the affairs of the large cities of the state. It says: Between Philadelphia and Pittsburg the lawmakers of the state are kept so busy that the internets of the rest of the commonwealth are bound to suffer. These are large cities, but it should be remembered that Penusylvauia Is a big state and that there are several millions ol people living outside ot the limits of the two counties on the eastern and western borders. It matters little to the majority of the people how the two cities are governed, but they should not monopolize the attention ol the legislature to the exclusion of all othercounties. For several years all sorts of ripper legislation has been intioduced for these two cities and it may be necessaiy to Bet apart a special session of the legislature to con sider their troubles.
